Adnama
Last night at like 2:00 am I took my night medications- 1500mg depakote, 30mg remeron, and 100 mg topamax I woke up early, couldn't get to sleep, so I went ahead and got up. But I was still fuzzy brained. I went to take my meds at like 7:00 am- and I grab the wrong pill box, I take another dose of the above. Around 8:30 I suddenly remember that I haddent taken my meds yet! [i'd forgotten the 7am incident] So I took my usual 300 mg effexor, 400mg provial, and 300 mg wellbutrin. Just as I was throwing those down, I realised that I'd made a boo-boo. Two hours later I was -supposed- to take 2.5mg of abilify as well which I forgot about, by the time I remembered I opted not to take it otherwise I wouldn't get any sleep tonight. I called the doctor's answering service, he was supposed to call me back, but no luck. So I dunno, advice? Should I just take my meds as normal? Should I lay off the depakote, remeron, and/or topamax tonight? Keep in mind I need the remeron to sleep, and that I've been manicy lately... the good productive kind of manic- but we all know how quickly that can turn into the bad boncing-of-the-walls awful anxiety ridden sort of mania in an instant. Not to mention that my combination of meds makes me a seizure waiting to happen, and even though i don't have a history of seziure I don't wanna find out if those meds are the only thing keeping me that way. What do you guys think?
Cetkat
You've probably got it all straightened out by now, but.. Whenever you have questions specifically about meds & how you should handle a screw-up or bad combo - call the Pharmacist. They know the most about the meds your taking (even more than your pdoc) & can tell you when something is safe. Also, if it's not - they can tell you what to do about it & when and if you need to go to the hospital. Even if your Pharmacy isn't 24 hours, call one that is. They can look it up. Hope your meds didn't give you too much trouble..
wifezilla
you may also want to get yourself one of those pill organizers so this doesn't happen again. Or even set your cell phone alarm to nag you when its the right time to take meds.
Fiona
The idea of a pill organizer is a good one. You can lay out what you're supposed to take by time of day, some of them you can do a whole week's worth. Then put them into smaller containers for the day or not. I put out the earliest morning pills, the ones my partner gives me before she leaves for work at 6:45AM, for her the night before. Sometimes I put mine for the rest of the day out at that time -- a small container for my own first thing and then a case for the rest of the day that I can carry. My Palm organizer has an alarm set for both 3 and 7 every day to remind me I ought to be taking meds around then, although I've been at this so long I don't really need the reminder most days. When you've got things all turned around, it's a good idea to call your/a pharmacist to find out if you're going to cause any unexpected reactions. Then wait until the next cycle -- maybe the next morning and start things over. Fiona
Adnama
Well I went ahead and continued on schedual that night. I was hung over in church the next day, so much so that I forgot to take the little cup of grape juice instead of wine like I usually do at communion. Weeee spinny stars. I'm returning slowly back to normal I think. I'd rather that not happen again, but nothing awful came of it. As far as pill organizers, my situation is thus- i have 3. Sitting on the toster oven near my mom's bed room is a light pink basic streight seven day one- my morning meds. Ontop of the refridge (along with my big box of med bottles and associated crap) is a darker purple one- my night meds. Floating around in my kitchen is also a circular seven day one for the abilify I try to remember to take two hours or so after my morning meds. Usually my mom administers my moning meds, giving them to me while I'm still in bed. Then hopefuly either her or I remember the abilify. The last one I hopefully remember. God only knows what I was thinking the other morning. I'm going to look into one of the other pill organizers, but my mom dosn't want to give me money and I'm broke. Catnapper
I got a seven day organizer with three compartments for each day for about $5.00 not too long ago at Walgreen's. It helps, especially with mid-day doses which are harder to remember than those that go with getting up and going to bed routines. I also carry a few extra pills in my car or on my person so that in case my plans change during the day I'm not caught short. I now have a dandy little pocket pill case, but for years I used a tiny piece of aluminum foil and it worked very well. I can definitely tell the difference when I screw up my doses. mel1
My pdoc gave me a pill organizer that is for those who take pills several times a day. I never use it. I'm, pretty good about remembering. Maybe ask about a freebie next time you are at pdoc. I sometimes can't remember whether or not I took meds. i don't actually forget to take them, I just can't remember if I took them and then I'm scared to take a double dose. When that happens, I just take a half-dose of whatever is in question, that way, It's not too extreme either way. K. mel
