I was taking 5mg Zyprexa daily, complained about the weight gain and the fact I'm popping cloneazepam almost daily and she tells me me I can stop the Zyprexa daily and just take it instead of the cloneazepam on an as needed basis. I dont recall too many others taking zyprexa only once in a while. Does anybody else take it prn? and if so at what dose? Also does it do any good other than making you tired taking it in this fashion? Its not that I dont trust my doc its just seems strange to me. Hay i take 10 mg of zyprexa .5 mg of clonazepam ... and 1000mg of depakote er... to help keep me from goin insane and goin off the deep end .... so my friend your not alone when i take all my meds i feel so damm good it aint funny .. ----thats my biggest fear is i keep stopin my meds once i feel very powerful Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dweii Posted August 25, 2006 Share Posted August 25, 2006 I was prescribed Zyprexa last christmas for an everyday basis. They started me on 20 mg (the highest recommended dose, I think?) and that made me into a constantly eating zombie. I gained several kilos in two weeks. They reduced the dose to 2.5-5 mg but when I got admitted into the hospital they stopped it. However, when having really bad anxiety two weeks ago I remembered those old 2.5 Zyprexa pills that I still had. Two of those and BAM! I felt ok again. It shuts my mind up so I can think rationally about my situation and not freak out. So yeah, it works for me really well and I hope it works for you. In reality I take 5mg daily and an extra 5mg every few days for agitation and anxiety. My moods are definitely better on 10mg daily, but I was eating too much and too tired at that dose. lilie Posted August 26, 2006 Share Posted August 26, 2006 I take zyprexa prn 10 mgs but when i was on it regularly she (my pdoc) made me titrate all the way down to nothing before going prn while substituting seroquel because I got akathesia. But hey if the klonopin is working and you're having no side effects from cutting the zyprexa off cold turkey then I guess it's a good thing. But doctors usually don't just say quit it cold turkey unless theres some sort of emergency (in my experience ymmv) zyprexa works really well to shut down the chaos in my brain. lilie Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Loon-A-TiK Posted August 27, 2006 Share Posted August 27, 2006 i guess this is similiar, since we're talking about AAP drugs- one of my pdocs had me popping half a risperdal instead of a klonopin when i got anxious at work. it cleared my thinking rather fast but i never felt it touched my anxiety. maybe zyprexa would. i'd say give it a go. i have Z in the house that i'm supposed to be giving back to my pnurse, but i'm keeping it because i want it for those emergencies when Z is all that is going to help. i can just take 20 and think straight in about 30 minutes. it is an amazing substance. the love of my pharmacutical life. Kharama Posted August 27, 2006 Share Posted August 27, 2006 ahh i dont like risperdal i didnt like the headaches it gave me so they took me off that and put me on zyprexa instead and i am glad they did cause sometimes the side effects do more then the pill is supposed to LOL!!!>.
