CheshireCat
Did anyone happen to read the story....I saw it on Yahoo...about this study? It found that the brain cells in the cortex closest to the cell phone were excited and stayed excited for an hour after the cell phone use. The story I saw was pretty brief, but it did say that this excitation was probably dangerous to people with "brain diseases like epilepsy." This sure made me wonder about BP. Hmmm.... ~Cat
Loon-A-TiK
YOu know, i have no clue! I'll ask my uncle, the pharmacist, tonight and see if he has a theory. maybe it is something exclusive to epilepsy patients, like BPers can stand rapidly flashing lights without getting seizures but the lights can give seizures t epileptics. I just don't know! Hey, you're talking to an economist/IT consultant (great combo) NOT a pdoc! lol
AirMarshall
Offhand I don't think this is particularly relevant to BP. The article mentions the temporal lobe, and a cell phone is held in that area on the side of the head. While it varies greatly, there is a specific form of epilepsy called TLE or temporal lobe epilepsy. Several of our members have discussed it here. BP'ers tend to have more trouble with the Frontal Lobes which are involved in emotion, plus one or more areas towards the center of the brain (don't feel like digging it up right now). A quick check of Nokia phones and some calculations, I estimate that the transmit at less than 1/2 of a Watt of power, which is very low compared to older cell phones. It will be interesting to see more specific information on what the measured and found. a.m.

HazelBLK
I hate mine. I hate all these frequencies and radio waves and microwaves - I resent the whole wireless world and everyone who needlessly uses it !!! I can feel it and I can hear it sometimes. I think we all are feeling and registering this mess on some level. The more wireless shit that's out there the more fragmented I have become. Tin foil is out though. I'm looking for a new helmet. Anything new out there along these lines?
grousemouse
i'm inclined to think this story is bunk. i checked, and my braincell was just sitting there drinking and watching porn. grouse.
bipolarbeary
I get happy because I don't get a lot of phonecalls. There's my best friend, my parents, and... the occasional appointment reminder person. So yeah, I'm going to get excited when the phone rings. Especially since it plays "It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time!"
CheshireCat
I'm with you Bipolarbeary. I get almost no cell phone calls so I get excited regardless! And most of the time it's my mom and she's hypomanic half the time, talking a mile a minute so I get off the phone breathless as it is.
