Stupid Library People

Hiya-

RANT

I'm in the library, using a public computer. There are kids here who do the "myspace" thing (obnoxious in my opinion), and insist on listening to loud music with their headphones (the library allows this for unknown reasons, dispite my complaints). Everyone also feels the need to have cell phone conversations, even though they ARE IN A LIBRARY. I think people think the comptuer lab is a social zone or something.

They suck. they officially get the stamp of suck on their foreheads from LOON.

There are no forms available, except if i write one up in Word and give it to them, or kind of tape it to their front desk facing them to read lol.

I shall create a form. That'll learn'em!

I just wrote a complaint: here it goes:

Since you do not have a standard complaint form, here is my complaint:

All these kids who play around on myspace or who listen to loud music are REALLY annoying. I find it hard to concentrate at all with this music blasting all the time. When I ask them to turn it down, they are unresponsive or just turn it down a little, so it is still audible and obnoxious.

Also, the cell phone conversations are annoying. If I happen to get one, it is over fast, because I respect that this is a library, not the social scene.

Please help keep this as a library and not a social club for myspace people.

Loon

PS- turned in complaint form to people who will hopefully care.

I hope it works.

in our libraries, complaint forms are logged locally, and also sent to the senior customer services lady. so are taken very seriously.

(and we staff are terrified of getting one written about us...edit..this library staff member is...even tho she's only there one day a week now..)

We have a separate area for 13-18 year-olds, which really insulates the grownups from much of the myspace and music. We also have complaint cards, every one of which is read by our director. We unfortunately lifted the cellphone ban some 6 months ago, deciding it was no worse talking to someone across town than someone in the next chair -- if either gets too loud they are cautioned, then escorted out by security if they won't hold the noise level down a bit (we do not look for silence, it is a library, not a morgue).

  • 4 weeks later...

This is a little off topic, and I know I'm bumping an old topic but oh well.

There was a dude in an EXAM listening to an iPod at an audible volume level. When I complained to the professor, he moved me, instead of the offender. And didn't ask him to turn it down.

;)
