whatsgoingon
I really liked chlorpromazine (Thorazine). I took it as an add on because I was on the max dose of Zyprexa during a BP mania. It brought me back down to normal and kicked the crap out of my psychotic symptoms. Good stuff.
Loon-A-TiK
honestly, the only one i've had experience with of any sort is haldol. haldol made me feel surreal and more tired than seroquel, so i stopped taking it after a week. i don't think that the old meds are necessarily worse, though there is a higher chance of some of the TD issues, especially if you take the drugs for a long time. My pdoc loves the older drugs just like he loves the newer ones. takes all kinds.
mrsloony
I took mellaril for quite a while. it was my first ap- and made a huge difference for me. Idon't remeber any problems with it- I think I switched because of ad interaction possibility.

Dweii
I've taken Fluanxol and Haldol with good results and minimal side effects.
HazelBLK
I liked Stelazine - I heard it was the drug of choice for back in the day for Viet Nam vets who were suffering from psychotic symptoms. It gave me bad tremors though and I had to take cogentin with it. Mellaril was awful - the only drug I've taken that caused me serious weight gain. The shrink admitted to me that one of the reason he prescribe Mellaril was because he thought I was too thin. I was miserable with the added 30 pounds. What an idiot he was. Dweii
Is it for psychosis or to stabilize moods? I took Fluanxol and that stabilized me a bit. My pdoc would up the dose when I was feeling depressed and it worked within a few hours. No side effects whatsoever for me.
robotlove29
haldol. only old school ap i took, but it helped and didn't turn me into a sleepy zombie like seroquel or a fat ass like risperdal....
