Restless Legs, or Akethesia or GRRR the pain in my legs

Recommended Posts

I'm the only one. I get Restless Leg Syndrome when I take Lamictal and Topomax. This is the second time this has happened. Last time I was on nothing but Lamictal. Now I'm on Lithium and Lamictal. So its definately the Lamictal. My doc doesnt believe me. I think she should fuck off. seriously. So I'm waiting for her to call back and perscribe me some Cogentin, but she didnt call back on Thursday, and now its Tuesday. Yes I called her again today. I want a new doc but its not possible at the moment.

ANYHOW

How and WHY would this occur????? Anyone else have it?!?! Or atleast EPS from Lamictal?? What do Topamax and Lamictal have in common that I get this?!

Thank you SOOO much. ive been trying to figure this all out for about 2 years. Finally I have answers and its calming to my mind.

I called her twice today and then she called back and perscribed the Cogentin 1mg at night, .05 in morning. im not sure if thats the way I used to take it, but I think it'll work. I took it a few hours ago and my ankle/foot is still throbbing now, but hopefully it wont take longer for it to work. I'll keep taking more until it does, I don't care. ;)

and i've read up on the differences between akethesia and rls and its soooo rls. i just dont see why cogentin would work for rls. i know benadryl doesnt work, and either does clonidine.

thanks :)

The biggest catch is that Restless Leg Syndrome is a collection of symptoms that can have a number of

causes. But it's something that can be made worse by meds, it's not caused by meds.

Cogentin is a strong anticholinergic medication. In theory, it would improve an impaired dopamine/

acetylcholine balance in the motor centers by reducing acetylcholine activity. Normally that's desirable

for treating Parkinson's or EPS/akathisia, where dopamine activity is suppressed by neurodegeneration or

by medication. You might get more sedation and zombification out of it, as with any anticholinergic/

antihistamine, so you might get some sleep anyway.

I had restless leg syndrome for a few hours once as a reaction to Maxalon, an anti emetic, which I was taking during chemotherapy. It was dreadful and even walking round the wards (whilst having to push my dripstand!) didn't help. It also gave me a short panic attack.

I have had Restless Leg Syndrome for 7 years now. My neurologist has had me taking Mirapex to treat it. I was recently diagnosed with Bi-Polar II disorder and put on Lamictal and Abilify. Since I started the Lamictal, my Restless Leg Syndrome has DISAPPEARED. I can't explain why it does the opposite for you, but it actually got rid of mine. How weird is that?
