invictus61101
I was prescribed this today and I don't know what it is. The doctor lady explained it, but I couldn't listen because she kept blinking and it made me nervous and twitchy. Help.
Dee
It is supposed to be for anxiety or to counteract side effects of other meds. I tried it alone for anxiety but it didn't work for me. Hopefully it does whatever it should for you. Best of luck.
Velvet Elvis
It's an anxiety medication mostly used for pdocs who are scared of giving out benzos for whatever reason. I'm not real clear on the mechanism of action. It's fairly unique. Zyprexa can be taken safely while pregnant so I assume it's safe while nursing as well, FWIW. Penny Century
buspar works on seratonin and, to a limited degree, on dopamine. it is used for anxiety. it is unrelated to benzos and is does not carry the risk of tolerance. it works great for some people, for others it does nothing. invictus61101
Thanks. I've decided not to take it since my son's ped says there is no info about taking it and nursing. I might try to just stay on Zoloft until January because I will have actual insurance then and won't have to go to the county mental health office with the blinky whatever the heck she was. VE-- I hope you mean Zoloft and not Zyprexa, since Zyprexa is excreted in breast milk (as is pretty much anything else that interacts in any way, shape, or form with dopamine). But yes, in the case of Zoloft, I think you're right. (Not that I blame you for switching them, I switch things on a regular basis, including the key for my apartment and that for the high-throughput imaging room at work.) And as for BuSpar, never tried it myself. The PI sheet says it's a 5HT1A agonist (activator), meaning it's related in that respect to most anti-migraine medications. It also works on dopamine (not sure how that'll fight anxiety, but I'm sure it does somewhere).
Velvet Elvis
hf: no, studies have shown zyprexa in breast milk to be safe. I'm pretty sure the article is still hre though it might have been on the old board.

I'm pretty sure the article is still hre though it might have been on the old board. Must have differed from the PI trials. They said that 1.8% of the dose was excreted in breast milk. Either that, or 1.8% of the dose isn't enough to do anything. In any event, good to have things straight.
