Panz
Not only am I gaining weight like mad, but I have a hodge podge of new symptoms that after reading the PI sheet, sound suspiciously like the symptoms of bad side effects from the massive dose increase. I'm trying to get in touch with a doctor, but I'm going to try to wean myself of the med before I get any sicker "Abdominal pain, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, indigestion, low blood pressure, nasal inflammation, neck rigidity, rapid heartbeat, tremor, weakness, back pain, cough, fever, palpitations, sore throat, sweating, weight gain, abnormal dreams, chills, dry eyes, ear ringing, eczema, gas, heavy menstruation, itching, jerky or irregular movement, joint pain, lack of coordination, leg cramps, loss of menstruation, muscle weakness, neck pain, nosebleeds, painful menstruation and pelvic pain" I would rather be psychotic than sick as a dog Can anyone advise me to any withdrawl problems or how to titrate down safely? Velvet Elvis
Why not talk to your doc about changing meds? It would be better if you could make a seamless transition form one med to another without having rebound symptoms between them. Not everyone gets all the side effects. Most get only a few and they do get better after a while. If you watch what you eat the weight gain can be managed. A low carb diet is the best bet. Libby
Panz, do you really remember how horrible you were feeling before the Seroquel? You were really, really, really suffering mentally and emotionally. I'd hate to see you go back to that. Why don't you wait until tomorrow and call your pdoc? Stay on your Seroquel until you speak to your doc about taking another AP. Or, maybe you can beat the side effects...they will lessen as time goes on. And maybe there are OTC meds that would help. Like something for your tummy... or taking your meds with a full meal. Which side effects are bothering you the most? Maybe we can help you figure out how to manage them. DMF
I swear that all of these meds have side effect issues until you reach a level that will work for you. At that point, the side effects seem to lessen tremendously. Trust me, I understand about the weight gain and the advice about a low carb diet really does work. We used the diet for several months with little weight gain. DD decided to try it with a normal diet (which, from the outside, is far from normal with the appetite increase) and has gained probably 30 lbs. Needless to say, low carb here we come. CheshireCat
Hi Panz I totally agree with Libby...I'm not trying to be a nag at all, I say this only because I care...you were feeling so awful psychologically before the Seroquel...I don't want to see you just go off the med...I think you definitely need to talk to your pdoc like VE said before you go off it on your own...maybe you can go on other AAP at the very least... Now, as for those side effects...is it possible to address them with some OTC meds? Could any of the side effects be compounding from anxiety? I am not trying to put you down by saying this. I have this happen to me, honest. In fact, it happened last night. I was feeling blechy from some med, who knows what, and I started feeling nervous, oh no, I won't be able to get to sleep, I feel so blechy, then I got nervous about not sleeping, then I couldn't breathe, then I actually got THE CHILLS, for crying out loud. I took my temp...no fever. It was anxiety. Next thing, I had some akasthisia thing kick in from the Seroquel. Jeez. It can happen. Aren't we fun? Anyway, I am encouraging you to stay the course, I guess. If Seroquel is helping with the head, maybe we can work out the side effect kinks. Can you share some details? I don't know...just want to help. Sending encouragement and tons of sympathy your way, Cat
Panz
Thanks you guys. Cyber hugs to the lot of you. Some of the symptoms are classic flu-y type things, I just found out that my landlady and one of her kids is suffering from the same blechy achy, snotty, fevery, chills and nasty tummy that I am, so that part may actually be a bug thats going around and not the Seroquel at all. I know that my symptoms get worse if I let myself start to panic. And then, of course, I spent friday and saturday boozing it up, so I kind of brought some of this on my self...I'm trying to not be barfy and keep as much of my meds down on schedule as possible. I should be able to get in touch with the psychiatrist that is handling my meds and see what he says in the morning. At this time, I'm treating myself like I have the flu...lots of liquids etc.
Libby
Hang in there, Panz. I'm glad you're back on track and you're calling the pdoc. I bet you do have the regular flu like your neighbors.
CheshireCat
Hey Panz...glad you took a good deep breath and thought it through...I know it's easy to panic and want to toss the meds...I think all of us get that urge to turn on our meds 'cause those side effects are a bitch, I know... ...sorry about the flu...you rest, girl, and drink your fluids...try to steer clear of the alcohol...not good for the sickies...but you knew that...rest, rest rest! We're pulling for you. Hope the pdoc's there to talk when you need it!
