Florida Judge Orders State To Treat Prisoners

Recommended Posts

A Florida state judge in Pinellas county has ordered the state to follow state law requiring that prisoners found mentally incompetent be transferred within 15 days to mental treatment facilities. He directed that the state be fined $1,000 per prisoner per day until the state complies. Pinellas county alone has 30 untreated incompetent prisoners.

Meanwhile, another judge frustrated with the lack of treatment facilities threatened to have one untreated prisoner dropped off at the office of the state director of Children and Family services.
