xdiamond
I'm currently interested in going on Wellbutrin and just have a few questions for you guys; What's everyone's personal experience with Wellbutrin? How effective is it in beating down depression and fatigue? Is it helpful in improving ADD? Would my psychiatrist be hesitant to prescribe it to me considering my age? (I'm 15) What side effects do you experience? Would you say it improves your mood or just numbs your emotions? I have a few issues with anxiety. Will Wellbutrin worsen this? I also suffer from insomnia and I realise Wellbutrin won't help this, but would you say not sleeping well on it is more to do with not needing as much sleep? Do you ever feel sleep deprived during the day? My main problem is that there is so much stress centred around my sleeping patterns at the moment. For some reason, I can never get the right amount of sleep and I suffer for it. Sleeping pills are no longer an option anymore. I can't think, I'm tired all the time and I've fallen back into the spiral of depression. I have problems with concentration and motivation which is a big problem for me at school, and since Wellbutrin was approved for ADD also I thought it would be the best med to help this. Are there any other antidepressants you would recommend for this problem?
PBF
If anxiety is a big issue for you, wellbutrin might not be the best choice. It has a tendency to cause or worsen anxiety. Its a stimulating, activating antidepressant. PBF
Loon-A-TiK
1. i personally like wellbutrin (WB) and have taken it for a couple of years now. i'm 28. 2. it does a fairly good job with my depression and i see no difference in my energy levels. i take it in the morning because it is supposed to be activating, but i could take it at night and have the same effect. 3. it does nothing for my ADD 4. maybe. the reason ADs except for prozac have the black box warning is because they have shorter half lives, and thus go out of your system faster. it may be harder for teens to remember to take their meds, and they may experience terrible depressive symptoms if this happens. i'm not sure where WB is on this spectrum. i personally have forgotten to take it for a day and nothing terrible happened to me. 5. no side effects that i know of. but then, i take several meds, so i wouldn't know what is causing what. 6. it improves my mood. i don't feel any numbing from WB. i've felt that way on some atypical antipsychotics, but you're probably not going to be going near those. 7. WB will not help an anxiety problem at all. you'd have to go to an SSRI, like prozac, for that. i took paxil for a long time, and loved that it helped my anxiety. if anything, WB could worsen anxiety in some people. 8. it is hard to answer that, because i take some night meds that knock me out. risperdal is very sedating for me and i take a pretty good dose, 3mg, at night. i also take klonopin at night. i don't think that the WB contributes at all to me being awake or not, because i'm tired at night even before i take my night meds. if anything, the risperdal i take during the day makes me tired, not sleep deprivation. but as i keep saying, i take different meds, so i can't be entirely sure about what is caused by WB and what isn't. i'm fairly sure that it does not affect my sleep or anxiey at all, it does improve my mood, and i like it in general. i know you didn't ask this but it could be of some interest in the future- it doesn't impact my sex drive at all. for me it is a plain antidepressant and has no other special qualities. there's nothing else to say about it. xdiamond
Thanks for your help, guys. I've heard before that Wellbutrin can be a "nervous" drug, but I guess it comes down to if the benefits outweigh the problems. My anxiety isn't too serious, it's just my tendency to worry and get easily agitated. But to be honest I think that may have become problematic only after I started dabbling with drugs (not the medicinal kind). And that's good about the sex drive thing too. One of the reasons I'm considering Wellbutrin is because Prozac gave me terrible sexual side effects.
chewbacca
I just started wellbutrin xl - 300mg, day 3 and so far the only thing I have noticed is a headache. I haven't seen my anxiety (and I am ANXIOUS) increase at all. I was given it for add symptoms and apparently I have some type of ocd stuff as well as anxiety. They wanted to give me stimulants but I was not up for that yet given my anxiety. Then it was between this and strattera and the doctor picked this thinking it might help with my other issues and the add (if I really have that). My issues are concentration and motivation for some stuff. When I was younger (now in my 30's) I don't think I had add, I used to be able to read a book and stuff no problem. Now couldn't do that at all. Thanks for your help, guys. I've heard before that Wellbutrin can be a "nervous" drug, but I guess it comes down to if the benefits outweigh the problems. mel1
I've tried Wellbutrin twice, with different med combos. Both times, it had bad bad effects on me. Of course, I'm BP and that may make a difference. It caused me to have extreme agitation and anxiety both times. It is not something I would recommend, but YMMV>
LikeMinded
I just got put on 300mg Wellbutrin SR (the 8-hour daytime version) for fatigue related to my psiMS issue, especially during and in times surrounding the attacks. Didn't really do much, but the first dose gave me a little anxiety. It's possible that the med has to reach up to a level concentration in my blood for it to start working well (I've only been on it for 2 weeks). My liver and kidneys run faster than an Indian boy who just told his parents he just got an A- in math class -- so my dosage-dependence may not apply to you. RdleyA
regarding wellbutrin and anxiety, i have heard from my mothers psychiatrist that some people that take it have lessened anxiety as the anxiety is linked to depression. when the depression goes away, the anxiety goes with it. this could be true or i could have no idea what i'm talking about and be making a total jackass of myself. :S HEY! That's what happened to me! My pdoc decided last summer to add welbutrin to my mental medication mix, since the zoloft was still leaving me a little depressed and anxious. For me my depression is really tied up with my anxiety. The two together really seemed to work for me. I don't remember getting any anxiety from the welbutrin. The welbutrin didn't give me a numb feeling at all. Instead it made me feel really really MELLOW. Blissing out I called it. Nice 8-) In fact, my pdoc just upped my dose last week. There had been this gloom over me most of the summer, so she decided to increase my welbutrin to 300 mg. And I just noticed it kicking in tonight, for the first time in months. I actually feel a lot more productive tonight. I think the gloom had kept me from really trying to work much. The one downside I've noticed: I actually need more sleep on welbutrin, about a full 8 hours rather than my usual6.5 to 7 hours, but that might be good for you! Good luck either way! And good job dealing with this MI BS early on instead of waiting till your 37 like dumbass me Peace, Brad
lilie
I've tried to do wellbutrin three different times(each with different cocktails)'m currently interested in going on What's everyone's personal experience with Wellbutrin? Two times there were no effects at all then one time I had rage/spaced out/excitability/anxiety problems(but that could have been from a combo of many things) How effective is it in beating down depression and fatigue? Pretty good Is it helpful in improving ADD? I'm not sure about that as I had specific meds for add already Would my psychiatrist be hesitant to prescribe it to me considering my age? (I'm 15) Possibly your hormones are changing pretty rapidly but you'll have to ask him and possibly your regular medical doctor What side effects do you experience? spaciness and rage were the only two major ones I experienced the rest may have come from other places Would you say it improves your mood or just numbs your emotions? It numbed mine (except for when I was angry) I have a few issues with anxiety. Will Wellbutrin worsen this? It did me but I had other stuff in my cocktail that may have attributed to that as well I also suffer from insomnia and I realise Wellbutrin won't help this, but would you say not sleeping well on it is more to do with not needing as much sleep? Do you ever feel sleep deprived during the day? I've always been an insomniac so I never felt sleep deprived during the day (well at night either) some people take trazadone I think for sleep. have you been to a sleep clinic to get some insight or help? maybe your parents can check one out for you. take care lilie
