Guest
At my last appointment my pdoc mentioned that he wanted to take me off my risperdal at some point. He only likes to make one med change at once so he changed something more important last time, but that hs worked and I am stable, so I am thinking the risperdal might be next, I see him on the 9th of Nov. Last time I tried to come off risperdal I had horrific obessional intrusive thoughts and paranoia, I couldn't sleep and I was really disturbed by voices and seeing things and I went back on it pretty sharpish. Being psychotic was scary! I don't want to try again, even though I am more stable and in a different place right now I'm scared!
resonance
Do you know why he wants to take you off Risperdal?
Guest
No he hasn't said so, I think I have mentioned that my weight is a problem for me and maybe it is that. I guess the best thing is to go armed with questions to understand what his purpose is and hope for the best.
blackbird
Good luck with it karuna, I know that if they tried to prise my beloved Zyprexa away from me, my life would be in tatters. Aren't they supposed to keep you on anti-psychotics for quite some time after a psychotic episode? You haven't been on Risperdal all that long have you? good luck blackbird x
Loon-A-TiK
my question is- is there a substitute he wants to try to put you on? if you're psychotic, you obviuosly need an anti-psychotic. weight is a problem on RISPERDAL? how big of a problem? if it doesn't bother you and you aren't in danger of diabetes and it isn't TOO far out of line, i don't see why he should care. unless you're in the range where it will have an impact on your health that is. will he titrate one med and ween you off of risp? i weened off of seroquel little by little and got on risp little by little at the same time, and eventually dropped the seroquel. i think the equivilence is 1mg risp=200mg seroquel, but don't quote me. Guest
I watch my weight so it's not a massive issue for me, not enough to come off it anyway. I was last psychotic at Easter, that's when I dropped the Risperdal, and I went straight back on it. I know that my pdoc considers me to be bipolar as opposed to anything else, that is what he seems to treat for. But I am scared that the risp is working and if he takes me off it I will have another episode. I guess I have to confide in him about my fears and see what he says. Mechante
Definitely communicate your concerns to your pdoc. I wouldn't want to give up risperdal either. Good luck.
lilie
Definitely tell him you want to keep your meds if they keep you stable. Mine is saying that same crap to me. I told him point blank: "You REALLY don't want me in your office manic at any point." So so far he's cooperating jeez doctors... lilie
