chinacat
OK, so follow me here---I have been on Zoloft, 100 mgs. for 3 years, take one at night, works well with my other drugs. Last month, the pharm. suddenly decided to give me a generic Zoloft. As is not unusual with me, I had immediate reactions to it--kind of like I had OD'd on it. All the side effects you would expect from Zoloft--but I have been on it for 3 years!! Figured, like generic Wellbutrin, the generics are sort of overloaded-- So--called the pdoc, explained, switched back to the Pfizer-branded 100 mg. Zoloft, the old friend. Started that on Fri. nite. By last nite, for some wierd reason, I was really itchy--but I get bug bites anywhere, so no big deal. Then--after a night of misery, DH and I decided--definate allergi reaction. Only new thing--taking a store-brand Pepto-Bismal for some nausea. Aha--thats it. Weirtd, but makes sense. No more of that, whelps and itching gone by noon. Took nighttime pills about 2 hours ago, including, as usual, Zoloft. About 30 minutes ago, I start to itch and then break out in the whelps again. So--what the fuck is going on? How could I have develped an allergy to Zoloft that suddenly? And why now? After 3 years on the same medication--suddenly an allergy? Note: I have never ever had an allergic reaction to any medication--not rashy reaction. EPS symptoms, yes, but NEVER this rash-kind of allergic thing (a true allergic reaction almost always involves rash and itching) I am freaked and itching and scared and itching and weirded out and itching. Taking Unisom--I can't take Benadryl, makes me hyper (I told you--paradoxical reactions) Please--anybody--anybody with a rash-type reaction to Zoloft? Its not the bad rash--I know all kinds of rashes, as I used to work for an allergist. But what the fuck is happening? Of course, calling pdoc tomorrow AM--but I sure would like to know that I am not losing what litttle mind I have. HELP!!!!! china
Glen
Bismuth is sometimes weired. It may be lingering in your system and giving you a heightened immune response. My advice would be to give it a few days, hopefully it will clear up. PS. relaxing always helps. Best, Glen
mrsloony
all i can think of is that a friend of mine couldn't take a generic of whatever it was ( i can't remember now)she was taking because it turned out she was allergic to the dye. i wonder if the formulation or coloring changed. for her its one specific red dye- others are ok. its probaly not whats going on for you but it was all i could think of. oh also- it is possible to develop allergies to at least foods you've eaten for a long time. i've heard strawberries is a common on to develop allergies to. did you use any new soaps or shampoo or detergent? ( that's usually question #1 from a doc about itchies) oh i hope it goes away soon. can you get some calamine lotion?
chinacat
Well, got Unisom last nite, and it worked like a charm--also helped me sleep the best I have in months. No break-outs, etc. today--but it has been happening after I take the meds in the evening, and so I am waiting to see. Took my stuff about 7:00 PM--its 45 minutes later, so far so good. No new anything--I am also thinking that the bismuth stuff screwed up my immune system, even temporarily. So fucking weird-- china
