witchywoman
I was put on Lithium 450mg last week. I got the generic for Eskalith CR. Today, my pdoc upped my dose to 600mg, so Im supposed to take 2 a day. When I just looked at the bottle, I got the generic for regular Eskalith, no CR. Is this going to be a problem? I have a call into my pdoc and am waiting to hear back, but just wondering if this is a big deal, or if Im going to sound stupid when my pdoc calls back. AirMarshall
It's probably not going to cause a major problem. The CR is 'controlled release" and is easier on your stomach, and also gives you a more stable blood level, minimizing other side effects. I think most pdocs rx the CR these days. I suggest that you contact your pharmacist and ask him to confirm what was ordered vs. what was filled. It the pharmacist goofed up, he should swap pills with no problems. If it says immediate then call your doc. On second thought, the CR version comes in 450mg tabs, and the immediate release in 300mg tabs. So if your pdoc really ordered 600mg a day, then the only way to do that is with IR form. I'm not sure why he would do that. The CR tabs are scored, so can yield 225mg halves, meaning he could order a tab and one half a day for 625mg. Unless you are critically toxic or amazingly sensitive, 25mg is unlikely to make any noticeable difference. Let us know how it comes out. Cheers, a.m.
witchywoman
Thanks AM. My pdoc called back and he said it doesn't matter. So, I guess Ill start 600mg tonight and see how it goes. I'll be getting my first bloodwork done on Monday.
