BenzoBabe
This may not belong here and all apologies if it doesn't. My doc has had me on Ambein NIGHTLY for about 5 years....I have some Lunestra samples she gave me...10 I think....and I have some Imovane... Can I just stop one and move to another ? Will I feel like helll??? Will I have withdrawal moving from the 10mgs of Ambein to one of the other sleep meds? I wont see her for a while...I really need info on cross tolerance not if people liked the meds or not...Thanks ahead I appreciate any help on this issue I can get. AirMarshall
Ambien and Lunesta hit slightly different brain receptors, so theoretically they wouldn't have cross tolerance, but I can't guarantee that. I'm getting mixed search results but I think Imovane (eszopiclone) is a different trade name for Lunesta (zopiclone), perhaps an EU vs. US difference. I've been using Ambien for two years (10mg) but I try to use it as little as possible, at the lowest dose (I split tabs). When I have been on it heavy I find it sometimes takes two or three nights for my sleep to return to natural. I would encourage you to try tapering your dose and see if you can mininize your usage. This might be a good time to review your overall sleep regime. Are you practicing good sleep hygienne? We have a pinned topic with ideas. Good sleeping, a.m. p.s. I didn't say it, but I don't know of any reason why you can't cut over meds from one nite to the next.
BenzoBabe
Wow thanks AM I really appreciate how youre always so helpful and take the time to check info out for me and others in here..I did practice good sleep hygine however I found it didnt make a lot of difference for me..I can drink iced tea right up till bed...read in bed...use the puter and all before bed and it all seems to not matter..some nights I sleep some I dont sleep as well..even on meds...I have even tried yoga before bed...I have come to the conclusion that some of it is in my head..you know that self fulfilling prophecy thing..and some has to do with hormons ..I kinda wish I had never started on sleeping meds....It seems to me..someday my doc is gonna say I am on them too long...then I am screwed...I should start to taper...I did that when I first started the meds..I may start again with say 3/4ths a pill...THANKS I would love to kick these meds...and sleep but be sleeping pill free again. I may try the jumping of pills too..she did give them to me...but without a clear idea of what to do with them. I dont think she meant to take both lol....Again thank you
HaloGirl66
I tried swiching between ambien, lunesta & sonata. It really didn't make a big difference for me.

HaloGirl66
Thanks Halo I will try it then..I have just been sitting on the meds i fear of withdrawal from Ambein...I have never done withdrawal and never want too..it sounds awful when I did it I hadn't been on any one of those for a while, if you have been on ambien for a few weeks or more, I'd taper off that one before starting another. Once you get it out of your system the switching probably wouldn't have a withdrawl issue, for precaution's sake - as always, check with your doc before playing around with your meds
AirMarshall
The half life on Ambien ranges from about 1 - 4.5 hours. So, it should all be out of your system within 24 hours. I don't think you are going to have any significant symptoms other than signs related to sleep. a.m.
Sunshine
Chances are you won't experience what is considered "withdrawal." The worst thing that is likely to happen is you won't sleep ("rebound insomnia").
sepia
Cross Tolerance? For vampires, nil. You should be fine.
