stable not balanced
okay, a male friend of mine started taking zoloft about 1 1/2 mos ago for anxiety. he's also md, but doesn't want to become a walking medicine cabinet. (understand!!!) so, no other meds. 1. he clenches his teeth. is this normal for zoloft and does it go away? 2. he wants to stop in a month or so. what can he look forward to as far as withdrawals? should he slowly go down in mgs? 3. (for me) is it true that zoloft is better for men with anxiety and lexapro better for woman? well, that's about all for now. looking forward to your responses! thank you, kathy
bluebeard
If someone is taking ANY antidepressant if it is helping you should stay on it for a MINIMUM of 6 months teeth grinding MAY be a symptom of anxiety your friend really should stick with any medication, taking it for say 3 months is a waste of time, it takes at least a month to start working

For some people it goes away, others end up with TMJ or other types of mouth soreness. If he has seen a significant improvement, both for anxiety and mood, with the Zoloft, it's not a good idea to quit it before six or more months. Not so much because of withdrawal, but because it's more likely the symptoms will recur. If he's on the beginning dose of 50 mgs per day, withdrawal shouldn't be a big deal, but it varies for everyone. Most people don't get withdrawal symptoms to any great degree. I would cut down to 25 mgs for a couple of weeks, and then see how it goes with quitting it altogether. It's fine to bump the dose back up again or taper off at a slower rate.
