Sunshine
I can't swear to it, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting two different spyware programs from this site. In Spybot they are identified as Advertising.com and CasaleMedia. Is this possible? I'm running Spybot at least once a day now... sometimes 2-3 times and these entries always come up. I delete them, but they always come back. I can tell when they re-install because I hear the processor/drive running when I'm not running anything. Often, Crazyboards is the only site I've visited between scans. I'm trying to find a way to permanently block them, but I'm not sure how to do this since I don't know the domain name they are coming from (and don't know how to determine it). I thought the culprit was Myspace, but I haven't hit that site in a couple of days. If it helps, I'm running Windows XP (Home Edition) with SP2 and Firefox 1.5.0.7. I've got a firewall (Trend Micro Pc-cillan that also supposedly blocks spyware (thought I haven't found it to be all that robust). Thoughts? Suggestions? AirMarshall
I checked the page with this post, as well as the main CB forums page and I don't see either of those programs as being active either place. I run Norton Antivirus 2006, and Ad-Aware, and have never found either of those programs associated with CB. I wouldn't bet a cup of coffee that Myspace is clean. a.m.
Velvet Elvis
Advertising.com is just a tracking cookie that's used by tons of websites. with banner ads. It tracks your browsing habits to target advertising. Some google ads may use it. Yahoo ads do. Any kind of targeted web advertising will use something like that. It's sucks but it's how the web pays for itself. OK. Yeah. The other one is like that too. http://www.answers.com/topic/advertising-com-inc I don't know if casaleme cookies can come through adsense or not but they are another large ad serving company. Sunshine
I know they aren't malicious, but do they affect sytem performance (or is it just my imagination)? Also... I get how the advertising generates revenue, but why are tracking cookies necessary? I thought the advertising served up on this site was generated by the post content (not tracking cookies). How much do I have to pay you per month to get rid of them?
Velvet Elvis
They are text files just a few k long, no different than the other 200 cookies you've got saved.
Sunshine
But these are the only ones that come up in Spybot as "problems"! As for cookies... you'd be surprised by how many of those I've get set to allow. I've been cleaning house.
