wifezilla
"COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The leader of the influential National Association of Evangelicals, a vocal opponent of the drive for same-sex marriage, resigned Thursday after being accused of paying for sex with a man." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061102/ap_on_...sex_allegations
Loon-A-TiK
it is interesting that their church is investigating this, because of course, they could never admit it if the accusations are indeed true. if they were having sex every month for that long of a time, i seem to believe him... of course, haggard needs to reflect and pray. and of course, he has been faithful to his wife and is against gay marriage and gay unions. edited to say- comments above are dripping with sarcasm. wifezilla
I don't know what it is about Colorado Springs... We have some kind of evangelical magnet buried under Memorial Park or something. And it isn't just religious organizations, but WACKY religious organizations Remember the Focus on the Family guy a few years back? "John Paulk, a former drag queen and paid escort who used to go by the name Candi. Then he became a born-again Christian, got into therapy and turned into the straight man he says God wants him to be. He married an ex-lesbian and got a gig working for Focus on the Family. He became the poster boy for the ex-gay movement, appearing on Oprah, the Jerry Springer Show, and landing on the cover of Newsweek. His face was so familiar, though, someone recognized him at a gay bar in Washington, D.C., in 2000. Paulk lied about it (said he got lost; said he had to use the bathroom), then came clean (said he wanted to see if gay bars had changed) and later resigned from FOTF." And the whole TINKIE-WINKIE thing? And Sponge Bob and Patrick being outed? LOL
Maddy
I like this commentary in particular: James Dobson Hearts Ted Haggard And is it just me, or is Ted Haggard just fuckin' scary looking? With that fake plastic smile plastered across his face all the time, it's like he's had a face lift and pulled **TOO TIGHT**. Scary man. Scary man. Natsky
I feel so bad for these people. How stupid. that man's poor family has my thoughts today. It makes me want to vomit that there are folks around who would make it their life's mission to spread such hatred and crap like that, who would try to squash another persons right to marry whom they choose, for that I think they should feel deep shame...but to BE a person who hates homosexuality and IS homosexual...man, that must ache. What a wretched human being. Forget about an afterlife, that guy has already been living in hell. He should have just...not been a pastor. Being unable to embrace your homosexuality is one thing, but to fight so hard against it, to preach against it and then have your world fall down around you when your secret is exposed?? What the hell is that? Crappy planning, that's what. Again, you've got to feel for his wife and kids...what a betrayal. What a liar he is.

wifezilla
Naaa...it is funnier for us long term residence to see the expressions on the faces or newcomers when some local bible thumping group does something really stupid. And while Teddy boy does look a little weird...THIS guy gives me the willies... http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/1999/yearinrev.../link.bauer.jpg
DMF
I had to chime in on this one. The first thing I'm going to admit to is that I am Catholic and we know how perverted some of these priests are (this is where removal of sex organs come to mind for me). I also live in the Bible belt so I'm sure I'll have some Evangelical group at my door in 2 seconds of posting this telling me that I must repent for my post........but I am sick and tired of all of this. Does every pervert in this nation become a minister? Oh, I know (don't get on my case) that there are decent human beings who are truly good ministers but GIVE ME A BREAK! Between them and the politicians who are so full of themsleves that they can control our futures and what we can and can't do but they act with such hypocracy....again, sexual organ removal seems like a very good idea (and the Bible definitely supports my suggestion - "an eye for an eye"). Velvet Elvis
DMF: In this case I think he's just a closet homosexual. I don't see how that makes him a perv. The fact that's he's a homosexual who hates homosexuals and leads a national movement against them makes him a grade A-1 asshole.
Loon-A-TiK
VE- i don't think he is a perv because he had sex with a man, however i do think that when you combine the whole scene together that it can be considered pervy. at least he was having sex with a willing, adult party and not an innocent child. there are many worse offenses than getting high and having sex with call boys. Maddy
I think it's really sad that he's more comfortable admitting to something illegal (buying drugs) than he is to "gay sex". Now just playing "devil's advocate" here and perhaps he is telling he truth and there was no "sex" involved, per se. He still lied at the beginning, because he stated that he didn't even know the guy until he found out that there were taped convrsatons tying him to the escort. That really damages is crediblity. At least to me.
DMF
Oh Lord, I'm going to hell! No, got to clarify here - NO PROBLEMS WITH GAY PEOPLE AT ALL!! My issue (and perhaps I shouldn't have used the word perverted) is that I have a real problem with people saying/acting one way in public and doing something else in private. I totally understand that there are gay people who don't feel comfortable expressing their sexuality and I don't even have a problem with that but there is something wrong with someone who is gay (again, nothing wrong with it) and then preaches how God considers homosexuality a sin. People, expecially people who are truly in need, tend to turn to the Church and then we find these people who are such freaking hypocrites come crawling out the the woodwork not of their own volition but only when they are backed into it. This guy (Haggert??) adamantly denied it a night or two before he admitted "some" indiscretion. O.K., enough from me.
Dee
Right-wing xian society breeds this sort of hypocrisy. Why is anyone shocked?
