GroovyGwen
Peeps downstairs have wireless internet. They say they will let me tap into it but I need stuff for my computer. I have no idea what stuff I need. I tried doing research but got WAY overwhelmed. I tried pawning off responsibility to my sisters as something to get me for X-mas, but they can't or don't want to - probably for the same reasons I am overwhelmed. Help. Loon-A-TiK
get a wireless router and you should be fine. i think. i've never used someone else's bandwidth before, but that's how the signal would communicate if you were in your own home. Hey there, Basically, to tap in to your neighbors internet, your computer has to have a wireless antenna to receive the signal. If you have a pc, you'll need a wireless adaptor card and an available PCI slot to put it in. If you have a newer laptop, it might have a built in adaptor, or you can buy one that fits in your PCM slot. I know that might sound confusing, but it's pretty simple to figure out once you know what you need. Please feel free to PM me or post if my explaination sucked. Oh, by the way, if your neighbors have wireless already, you don't need a router. ~M
AirMarshall
Gwen, Here is an example of a wireless card for a laptop: http://www.buy.com/prod/Linksys_Wireless_G...6/10336401.html Here is a card that would fit into the back of a PC: http://www.buy.com/prod/Linksys_Network_ad...1/10339234.html I'm not promoting any particular brand or vendor, but Linksys makes good products and www.Buy.com is a reliable vendor. You can find cheaper brands and sources. a.m.

GroovyGwen
You all rock. Neighbors are in the same house, I live upstairs, they live down. I have a plain ol' desktop. Old school. What is a PCM or PCI slot? This is the shit that pisses me off (found on the buy.com website) The Wireless-G PCI Card connects you with Wireless-G networks at an incredible 54Mbps! And for added versatility, it can also interoperate with all the 11Mbps Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country. And in either mode, your wireless communications are protected by up to 128-bit encryption, so your data stays secure. WHAT THE FUCK PEOPLE?! ENGRISH PREESE! Becca
You can also get little wireless cards that come on a keychain and kind of look like a tampon. They connect to your computer through your USB port. Somewhere I have This one and it always worked for me. I actually wish I could find it, because right now only my mac has internet access (a company runs wireless in the building and my mac obviously came with airport) while most of my stuff is on the ancient pc. GroovyGwen
Oooooh, I like little things that look like tampons! So to recap, I get one of these things, plug it into my computer and I'm good?
