Loon-A-TiK
ok. i finally got some money and was able to buy my meds (i'm on medicaid so it is sad that i didn't have the money, it is very sad, but i didn't even have pennies), and i just took my first dose of adderall xr at 10mg. what should i expect from it? i work until 11 so i'm not worried about it messing with my sleep, especially with my low dose and the klonopin+risperdal combo that knocks me into a coma. my pdoc said that i'd feel slightly wired. is that the case? i guess i'll find out as soon as this stuff starts to hit my system! lol. maybe it will help me focus better already. that would help, since i just started a new part-time job (ssd recipient). loon
Velvet Elvis
Honestly, I've been balancing APs and stimulants for years. It's real tricky to get the dose of each just right so one doesn't largely negate the other. I can't imagine it doing much of anything on that risperdal dose. That's a good thing though. Otherwise it would probobly make you psychotic.
Dweii
You may feel slightly wired for the first few days, I did (on Concerta). That will probably go away. But please, ffs, be careful. You have been stable for... what, a week? Be on the lookout for any weird stuff going on. I hope it all works out for you and that I'm worrying over nothing. madison
I have heard that it makes people wired if they do not in fact have ADD.
Dweii
No, I think it's pretty common to feel wired the first few days even if you have ADD.
Loon-A-TiK
i haven't felt anything at all in the first 2 days i've been on it. i don't feel wired, don't feel like i had coffee, and i didn't have trouble last night falling asleep. so far so good! i'm on the lookout for weird symptoms, especially since i started working this week. if things are going downhill i'll need to make the admustments my pdoc wants me to make. Velvet Elvis
It reaches it's full effect in under an hour. There is no waiting around for days for it to kick in like other meds. The risp. is probobly blocking it.
Sensation
I had a ball when I was on it. I took 10mgs in the morning and 10 at noon. i didnt know you was working
Loon-A-TiK
so VE, you were saying it is a balancing act between my aap and stim so they both get to work and one doesn't negate the other? you must be right. the risperdal must be blocking the adderall, because i feel nothing. would i be looking at a higher than usual dose of adderall for it to work at all? and will the adderall only work somewhat and the aap only work somewhat once i do get them balanced, or will both work as they should? and i take klonopin as well. my pdoc wasn't too happy having both in there at the same time. do you know anything about what that could do to my mix? i wish i didn't have to medicate the add but i really do. car crashes are not good. yeah sensation- i got a job last week. i work at a gas station. i'm hoping it will be low-key enough that i won't freak out and get bad again. Velvet Elvis
You could just not drive maybe? Particularly since you're no longer working, do you really have to? I had to compromise between treating OCD and ADD, finding a dose where I was treating both only halfway. Since you're using APs to treat psychosis, I'm not sure you have that option. Consider methyphenidate based stimulants. They are more active on NA than DA and might be safer and interfere less with APs. Plus, plain old Ritalin is available in a generic. Loon-A-TiK
i'll raise that issue with my pdoc the next time i see him. i may end up seeing him sooner than my appointment, because this stuff just doesn't work. the risperdal is being used to treat mania, and i get psychotic in bad mania and bad depression, so it is a protection against those. i am working now. it is 3 blocks from my place, but i have a job at a gas station. i'm not working a lot of hours or making a lot of money, but it is work. i drive to work because i get out late and it could be dangerous walking home with that guy on the loose. but lucky for me (and for them), there aren't many cars on the road at that time of night, so there aren't a lot of cars to have potential accidents with. these days i only drive when i have to. but i want to buy a new car
Velvet Elvis
Are you getting both SSI and SSDI? You'd be better off trying to get both than risking screwing that up.
Loon-A-TiK
i don't get any ssi. i'm getter off trying to get both of what than risk screwing what up? you've lost me there
Velvet Elvis
Both SSI and SSDI. Working on disability is a risk. Finding something non-taxable you can do from home would be safer. Selling stuff on ebay or something like that.
Loon-A-TiK
how can i get ssi when i make over the cut-off amount for it in ssdi?
Loon-A-TiK
i put in a call to my pdoc to ask if i should increase my adderall because i feel nothing. i'm waiting on a reply. i've been taking it for days now when i should have felt *something* right away. the only thing i felt was another pill going down my throat. 10mg doesn't touch me. i also need to follow up with him on if my risperdal is to blame and if it is possible we can balance these needs, or if i just need to hang up being able to work forever because i just can't do it with ADD. even with bipolar disorder being treated, u ntreated ADD is kicking my ass.
