seven
First of all, I don't do cocaine or any rec drugs regularly. Just once in a rare while, social circumstances bring it up. I'm taking 100mg Lamictal, some biotin and vitamins Until a few months ago, I also took 1200mg Lithium and 25-100mg Seroquel I didn't used to have a problem with cocaine at all. But now, I'm having a wierd reaction. Cocaine makes me sleepy & wired at the same time! My eyes get extremely squinty and tired. Why is this happening? Does this mean I'm going to have a problem with dopaminergic drugs like wellbutrin? Thank you.
AirMarshall
This reminds me of the fellow who rushes to the doctor and says "Doctor, doctor, I broke my arm in three places. What should I do?" The doctor pauses thoughtfully and says "Well, stay out of those places!" a.m. *Nods to the late, great comic Archie Campbell of HeeHaw. Believe it or not, he actually worked the German existentialist philosopher Friedriche Nietze into a joke on the show.

Does this mean I'm going to have a problem with dopaminergic drugs like wellbutrin? OK, that IS a little wierd - wierd enough that AM's joke makes for good advice. On the bright side, Wellbutrin isn't nearly as dopaminergic as it is adrenergic. On the dreary side, cocaine isn't strictly dopaminergic either. There's also a similar problem with trying to get "high" on speed when the body's reserves of dopamine and noradrenaline are pretty much shot (terms to look for include "chasing the dragon") - you end up in the position of being too physically wired to rest, but mentally the brain is telling the other systems "Sleep! Dammit!" Basically it's a big red STOP sign.
invictus61101
Morphine does the same thing to me. It is highly annoying. After my surgery in August, they gave me morphine and I was sooooooooo tired but I could not sleep for anything.

Thank you. 7 Lamictal and cocaine or any antidepressant with a stimulant-even coffee- can give you a"manic stupor" where you feel tired instead of wired. But it's a dangerous game to play with your head. I don't recommend it at all. I've had terrible results with this type of thing for years till I finally gave up and obeyed the doctors orders. Now I only have big problems when I mess around again and am always sorry. Try not to do it.....except for the coffee, we just gotta have that sometimes with all these nightime meds. Afterall...geeze!
Guest Girlll
I started taking Lamictal like a week and a half ago. I took my dose today and soon after, did a bunch of coke. I had similar symptoms but on top of that my heart is beating scarily fast and earlier after about two lines i felt SICK to my stomach and was pretty fucked up for like an hour, which is strangly long for coke to last. From what I've read, lamictal and cocaine are cleared mostly through different mechanisms in the liver, so they shouldn't interfere with each other's metabolism. However, considering cocaine's other effects and the fact that your heart was beating hard enough fast enough for you notice while high - you probably were not doing your heart or liver any favors (look up what "portal hypertension" causes in the long run). The take-home message is still "Stop the illegal drug use while you still have a say in the matter."
mel1
I hope this doesn't sound rude, but anyway. I have watched my brother, who is BP1 and addicted to coke and meth. Doesn't take his prescribed meds. And his life has been ruined. Well, he actually straighened his life out somewhat and claims to be clean and goes to NA mtg. almost every day. But he lost everything. Because of coke. So, what I suggest is that if you are worried about SE's of coke, stop doing it. Go to NA. Most definitely tell tell tell your pdoc. It is dangerous in many ways what you are doing. Have you visited the substance abuse forum? I don't mean to lecture and I am not judging you, I swear. It is just the mom in me that is worrying for you. Take care of yourself.

Jasmine
Well there are many harmful affects starting out with addiction, overdoses, jail.... the best defense is offense. Just don't do it. Why are you so weak as to allow your so called friends ruin your life and this applies to alcohol too.... There is nothing wrong with a little drink here and there as it is legal. But with anything else you have a lot to lose starting with your freedom to live under the sun and sky... Try exercise as a replacement for the stress you are under. The drugs in the long run will just add more stress to your life than you can even believe possible...the only way to overcome the harmful effects is to stay away from them. Sorry straight hard truth is not fun, just skip the drugs and learn to enjoy life all by itself which can be pretty cool if you let it.. ______________________________________________ http://www.markpatrickmedia.com/index.html

Why are you so weak "Why are you so weak ... " and similar putdowns aren't "straight hard truth." They aren't entirely helpful either - even if the poster had waited around for 5-6 months for more input that would not have led into a fruitful discussion of his/her real issues. life all by itself which can be pretty cool if you let it.. Nah. Usually it just sucks and then you die.
