confused
Friday night my 5 year old was eating a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich. Afterwards, I cleaned off his face. Later that night his chin turned dark purple. It's stayed that way and is still purple. It doesn't bother him (no pain or itching) and he wants me to leave it alone. I went to a clinic with him last night. We spent 4 hours for them to tell us they didn't know. He has eczema and is allergic to strawberries. They give him a rash. They saw petichiae (broken blood vessels) on the bottom of his feet. They cleaned his feet to make sure it wasn't marker. They ordered a cbc (blood test) and it came back normal. They marked the petichiae on his feet and told me to watch for any more. I looked at his feet today, but I'm having trouble even seeing the ones they marked. They said that if he gets a fever, acts sick or if the petichiae increase to come back. They gave me some Aveno creme to put on his chin. Has anyone seen anything like this? confused
How is your son? I hope he is ok and nothing is wrong. Once when I was little I was playing with a cup, putting it over my chin and mouth and sucking to vacuum seal it onto my face, and I did it so long that it gave me a big purple bruise on my chin that looked like a hickey. Maybe he did something like that. Thanks. He had just got a game that cane with little cups. Last night he showed me how he had been sucking on it. I think that's what caused it. AirMarshall
Wipe the grape jelly off your face! I have seen this sign in small children from two causes: Violent coughing, and placing a cup over the chin and mouth and sucking, thereby creating a vacuum. Both actions caused small blood vessel breakage and subsequent bruising in the lower facial/chin area. a.m.
Guest Guest_Jennifer_*
Hey, everyone? Did your chins go back to normal. I know what caused my purple chin when I was young. There were some bushes in MN that had see on it that looked like small pea pods. I ate several and my entire chin and only my chin turned very purple. I did that again and the same thing happened. My little sister ate the same things years later and her chin turned purple. I can't remember how long my chin was purple; perhaps a week?? So,... did any of you eat some non-edible plant part? Guest Ruthie
Ahhhaaaaaa! I have just been searching around to find out why my son seems to have a strange "bruise" around the bottom of his mouth - it got worse between today and yesterday! Asked him and he said Yep he was doing the cup thing!!! And Yes - he had done it again today - hence why it had got worse! Soooooo funny! But also soooo glad this site is here! Thanks to all!
