Cellular Phone Issues

Recommended Posts

help! i have an LG phone with verizon prepaid service. while everyone else seems to be able to call me, i have one friend who sometimes gets my voice mail when i'm not on the phone and the call should be coming through. WTF???

this phone is 2 years old. it also has battery problems. i can't talk on it for longer than 20 minutes, when it is fully charged, before it dies on me. it starts beeping well before 20 minutes is up.

i won't even get into how crappy vzn's service plan is. i'm just with them because so many of my friends and family are with them and vzn to vzn is free.

so you think it is just time to replace my phone and probably switch carriers? i was thinking of going with revol, a service that is fairly local, however has flat rates for unlimited minutes and all the features, however you have to buy your phone. there isn't a credit check, and it is pay as you go, so there are no bills ;)

help! do you think my phone is dying/dead? should i just go buy a new one?

Hi Loon:

I dont know anything about the service plans you use or mentioned.

my little story - I bought my first cell phone from sprint in 2000. I had that phone until 2005. one of the major reasons I got a new phone was the same thing - certain people's calls would always go to voicemail. and I certainly didnt program my phone to do it.

I stayed with sprint because of the "perks" of being a long time customer.

so, back in 2005 when i got the new phone...the sprint dudes could not even believe that my 2000 model was still working. one guy said he had never seen such an old phone (kids these days). so I got a pretty shiny new pink phone.

oh, the sprint dudes also said that the phones are made to break and quit working within 2 years.

so in a few months it will be 2 years since ive had my pretty pink phone. I get all my calls...none go directly to VM and I seem to have a stronger signal than the old phone. I love it. and I dont wanna change - I hope it works longer than 2 years.

good luck!!

so it was the phone?

my phone is way out of warranty since it is over 2 years old. yeah, i think they must be designed to break after 2 years, because that seems to be about the life of the cell phones i've had. that's really impressive that it lasted 5 years! i got my first phone in 2000 too. i also had sprint and then changed to verizon.

my friends are saying that i should take the phone to the verizon store and see if they can do anything about it or give me a new one. i don't think they're just going to hand me a new phone or something with this one out of warranty! lol ;)

it must be the phone. you said it just happened to certain people? yeah, i have one person who it happens to. no one else has said anything about it.

i thought it was only happening to one person, so i could deal with that, right? well, now it's happening to everyone. my g'rents and my aunt thought i had my phone off or was being rude by not answering the phone, when it never rang, told me i missed calls, or even said i had any voice mail. pretty much, since it is my only phone and i can't rely on it, tomorrow it is getting replaced.

i don't know about cellular carriers. there's that local one that is dirt cheap, but i have serious questions about their coverage area. i have verizon now, but they're expensive (i have prepaid service).

i hate having to have a cell phone. remember the good 'ole days when we weren't tied with electronic leashes? now everyone expects me to have my phone on all the time, even when i'm not to be disturbed.

i'm happy to have it when i'm driving, especially with how crappy my car is. but you pay for it when you really don't want to be called and you get a call you have to pick up, or you'll be considered to be so rude, because they know you have your phone with you. it isn't like you can say you weren't home anymore. it takes away the excuses. blah blah blah sometimes technology bites.

let's go back to rotary phones!! ;)

Ok. Sounds like a plan. I'm pretty happy never having had a cell phone in my life, but if I do ever get one, one of those will be near the top of the list of things I consider.

Hi Loon:

yes yes yes get a new phone...

that is if you still want a cell phone.

and you dont have to answer everytime someone calls (unless you were expecting it or want to talk to them). get your people used to leaving messages. you dont have to be available 24/7 unless they are paying you. ;)

yep db, they're going to have to get used to it being shut off during certain times. i cannot promise that i will be available 24/7, because no one is paying me :)

i got a new phone with a local company that has unlimited access for 50/month. no contract, no credit check (thank you thank you thank you), just a nice new phone.

watch- in two years i'll be bitching about this phone and need a new one. i think they make them that way on purpose. then if there's one like yours that lasts forever, it is some kind of miracle and people go on pilgrimages to see it ;)

i'm just using up the time on my old phone that i've already paid for and i've started using my new phone too. i still have to call people and tell them i got a new number (because my service is prepaid i never got any bill, and they needed a bill with my phone number on it to verify my phone number to switch it over). lucky for me, there aren't really a whole lot of people in my contacts list, so i'm not going to be spending too much time calling people or programming numbers into my new phone.

;) they didn't understand the treasure they were refusing! you could sell it on ebay, along with all those french fries that are supposedly shaped like the virgin mary, and make some good money! it will be on the news and everything.
