Unregistered
Depends. Zyprexa kicked in for me within a day. YMMV.
null0trooper
Depends. Zyprexa kicked in for me within a day. YMMV. It would also depend on dosage and whether it's a "major tranquilizer" (old-school APs) or "atypical antipsychotic"

resonance
The four AAPs I've been on all kicked in within a few days.
Dweii
I've been on both typical and atypical APs, and I swear I could feel a difference in a few hours. The full effect probably came after a few days though. Then it's my pdoc who claims that you actually need a longer time to adjust and evaluate the effects of APs than with antidepressants. She doesn't mean the time for it to kick in, but the time you need to evaluate the effects and see whether or not to stay on it.
DMF
Just remember that most AAP's are started at very low doses with a slow titration rate so you may not see the results you are expecting right off but will need to wait until you get to a therapuetic dose. Angelwhore
As I understand it, AAPs kick in pretty damn quick. I was given Zyprexa in response to depersonalisation/paranoia issues, and was pretty much back to normal within a couple of days (apart from being zonked out and trying to eat everything in sight, but that's another story....). I've also been told in the past by a psychiatrist (not my regular one, but from the same practise) that I could take Seroquel 'as and when' I felt I needed it (I was keeping pretty good mood charts at the time). Don't know about the older APs though. xx
