hollywoodfreaks
I've heard of rapid-cycling unipolar, and that's a pretty apt description of me on antidepressants. Can they cause something like that?
Velvet Elvis
What do you mean by that exactly?
AirMarshall
What is bipolar? Cycling. No where is the amplitude nor the range of bipolar cycling defined. You can cycle from normal to the deepest depression, normal to wigged out manic, from one extreme to the other or anywhere in between. I don't think that there is a specific answer to your question. You probably have to go by the symptoms. If you stop the AD, and the cycling stops, fine. If it keeps going, then it is reasonable to treat the new condition as bipolar, regardless of what caused it. Mood stabilizers are usefull for both depression and bipolar. a.m.
SunshineOutside
My Pdoc once told me that If I were not already Bipolar II, an anti depressant would not cause me to become hypo-manic............(although it might kick it off) Make sense? hollywoodfreaks
What I mean by cycling is that every few days my mood switches from moderate to severe depression to normal and maybe above (I'm not sure if I experience hypomania or not.) Well a good deal of the time anyway. It didn't happen on just Lexapro, but when I added Wellbutrin to the equation it started and continues even when I go off it. I'm not sure what you mean, SunshineO.
