Spanophile
I just went up to 150mgs of Lamictal and now any type of pop tastes horrific. I drink Diet Dr. Pepper at work and it tastes horrible so I tried Diet Mt. Dew. It tastes horrible too. Food doesn't seem to taste different but anything that is carbonated tastes just plain gross. Is this a side effect of Lamictal?
AirMarshall
yes, it can be. for me it wore off after a few weeks. There are other meds that react similarly. a.m.
dumdum
yes, it can be. for me it wore off after a few weeks. There are other meds that react similarly. a.m. I never had that problem with Lamictal, but Topamax is famous for killing the taste buds. I've given up on my beloved Diet Pepsi. Anything carbonated is just plain flat and many foods taste like cardboard. It sucks. But hey! I've dropped 21 pounds since adding Topa. to my feedbag last March! (even though I wasn't trying...and 10lbs. would have been plenty...) So there's something to be said for the shitty side effects of these meds. I guess. Spanophile
I have no other reason to explain it other than the increase in Lamictal. I mean I'm a Diet Dr. Pepper addict - I drink 3 20oz bottles of it a day. I know that's not healthy but I love it. Now it tastes like how perm solution smells. It is foul. dumdum
Yeah, the titration up could be the reason for the foul taste and smell. And it could be temporary, too. Over the course of the year I've been taking Lammie, I've experienced various funky side effects that have come and gone. And my dosage was all the way up to 600mgs at one time. (not for long, though. idiot now former neuro. practically killed me with that amount.) Most likely once your body adjusts to the dosage increase, this side effect will dissipate and you'll be able to go back to that wretched Dr. Pepper. er, I mean, delicious beverage! ha ha....hang in there!
