sdjeff
So, long story short I gained 70 pounds while taking zyprexa for about a year. I was then put on Risperdal and over a year I've gained another 30. I started at around 200-210 lbs. Now I tip the scales at over 300. The worst part, besides buying a lot of new clothes in th "big and tall" sections is the cravings. I smoke, and the urge for sweets is almost as bad as nicotine cravings. I tried Perphenazine but it was crap and I landed in the hospital. I could maybe try Haldol, but the EPS is worse and I'm afraid of TD. Exercize? Hah! I can barely get out of bed and the Fibro and joint problems make it way too hard. I also can't get a physical therapist with my current insurance. I could eat better, but again it's hard to prepare fresh foods and such. when I'm out, all there is is fast food. then comes in the urge for sweets. fighting that urge is a huge battle. Diet pills are too stimulating and any other stimulants are out. Even taking Vitamin B causes nausea. Any ideas? Comments? Anything? I really need to drop this weight and I don't see any solutions. Velvet Elvis
What makes zyprexa scary is that it changes something to do with lipid processing. Even if it didn't make you hungry it would still make you fat. Particularly given your depressive leanings, Geodon might be worth a look. Abilify in conjunction with Nardil is probobly out of the question.

It took about a year for the residual problems to completely go away. Also did the Abilify thing and had a bad time. Nardil sure limits the possibilities. I'm not trying to be difficult, just relaying what has happened with these meds. I think I'll try to talk to my pdoc about Haldol. Last time I was on an old school AP I had this wierd twitch with an eye muscle. Not noticeable or painful, just irritating.
