I'm pretty sure my cocktail list is down there somewhere, anyways....i've always had Petit Mal Seizures, no big deal. Today I had a Grand Mal Seizure...actually a few hours ago, and I feel really funny/dizzy...lethargic...sleepy....is this "normal"? Anyone know? I'm on 3 anticonvulsants....so wtf?

My Pdoc says it can't be my meds so i'm going to see a family doc tomorrow...any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated......

Oh and I would have read through the seizure forum, but i'm really kinda confused and dizzy right now.....sorry guys

Hi Sebrina, Sorry you went thru, well, what, exactly did you experience today? If you had a grand mal, lethargy and sleepiness are the norm after such an event, as your brain is trying to re-charge.

And yes, Velvet Elvis (luv the name, BTW!) grand mals can be lethal--when one becomes Status. i.e., one seizure after another without recovery, meaning, you don't regain consciousness between each seizure. The fact that Sebrina is coherent enough to "talk" to us here is a sign that she didn't go Status. And she's seeing her Pdoc tomorrow, so that's excellent. Sebrina, why does your Pdoc say it can't be your meds? Meds can always be tweaked, that's for damned sure. They don't cause seizures but if you have a seizure, the dosage can certainly be increased or decreased.

You don't always have to go to the ER after a grand mal, either. There are plenty of people who, (unfortunately,) have grand mals on a regular basis and they don't necessarily have to go to the hospital. They ride it out. That's what my (former) neuro told me to do as long as the seizure doesn't last longer than 5 minutes and isn't followed by another one and I haven't fallen on my head in the process of experiencing the joy of convulsing---he said that there's no need for emergency care. Afterward, your muscles will ache, he said, your tongue could be bitten to hell and you'll just want to sleep. And that's to be expected. Greeeeeaaat.

As for the seizure forum, when you feel a bit more clear-headed, check it out. It's pretty stagnant, unfortunately. I joined this site hoping for some fresh information but that area doesn't see a lot of action. There's still some good info over there and if you post, I'll check in and answer your questions the best that I can. Hell, I'm a pro! I got my diagnosis all of a year ago so I know ALL! ha ha!! ;)

Get some good sleep tonite...let us know how it goes at the doc's office tomorrow....

I'm thinking an adjustment to your Keppra and/or Lamictal is in order here....and am interested in knowing if you had a grand mal or not...take care.
