Loon-A-TiK
the newest atypical, invega, is out now. it is a time released form of risperdal, so hopefully easier to take. it is considered to be in a newer class than abilify because it is the first time released atypical drug. it has the FDA stamp of approval for SZ and not BP as of now, however of course pdoc will be RXing it for BP. i guess some of us will be put on it in the near future and we will know if it's any good or not. my pdoc is talking about making me the first patient he puts on it. if i end up taking it, i'll let you guys know how it goes. Loon-A-TiK
i read the PI sheet and it does say that prolactin can be an issue. i'm worried about that too. it goes into detail about the dangers of elevated prolactin, which i've known, but i didn't know about the bone density loss. i just had blood drawn to check my prolactin. i'm going to make a choice to stay on risperdal, or this new form of it, based on the results of my blood work. blackbird
Is it on the market already, as in you could be prescribed it tomorrow by your p-doc? I wish you all the best with your prolactin levels. I know you fight so hard to find the right AP and be stable and un-psychotic, keep us updated as to how you find paliperidone if you are prescribed it. I know that prolactin levels keep me away from regularly taking my beloved Haldol
Loon-A-TiK
yeah, it's officially out and ready to be prescribed. i have a pdoc appointment today and he could give it to me if he wants. i don't know what it would do to my prolactin- if it would do anything differently than the risperdal does, but i could have a look. my gyn is blaming all kinds of problems on risperdal. i want to quit, but my pdoc says to dream on, that i could only quit in an ideal world and that i'll be totally manic without it. i think lamictal can handle it. we'll see. if he gives me invega, i'll tell everyone what i think. i don't even know if the pharmacy would have it yet
Loon-A-TiK
well, we read the PI sheet together and it says that high prolactin is still a concern with this new form of risperdal, so we opted to retry abilify instead. abilify just made me feel like i had bad pms, so we're going to work with the dose and see if we can get it to work. i really don't have any more options in the atypical realm. Dee
Prolactin aside, I am somewhat interested in this. My concern is sleep. I am very sleep resistant and nothing but Seroquel works for me. How sedating is Risperdal in comparison to Seroquel? Loon I know you've tried both. Does it help much with anxiety, like Seroquel does? I'm looking forward to the SR version of Seroquel, but it won't be happening soon enough. SR Zyprexa will be out soon I read. I'm not sure Invega would be effective for me, but it sounds like it might be worth consideration. Does this lactation problem occur at low doses? I think that would really freak me out, not to mention my boyfriend.

For me R made insomnia worse but also caused hypomania which is somewhat rare.
bxt227us
Hi, I read that it's the active metabolite of risperidone, hydroxyrisperidone. hydroxyrisperidone is thought to be responsible for the elevated prolactin caused by risperdone, so the prolactin issue is likely to be the same...bummer
