chimpmaster
It would certainly be a tricyclic drug, from the older group. Of the more recent meds, effexor and paxil are probably the "strongest", but it all depends on the individual.
Spanophile
When I was put on Cymbalta I was told it was the fastest acting and strongest. They immediately put me on it combined with Lexapro when I was in the hospital. It did pull me out of depression but sent me for a loop (I just recently found out I'm bipolar so that's why I went loopy).
Velvet Elvis
I think chimp means an MAO-I, but he's wrong because there is no answer to your question. Your question presupposes that depression is one thing but it's not. That's why it's so hard to treat right on the first try. Brain scans of people with similar symptoms might show vastly different neuroanatomy. A jackhammer may be stronger than a pick but both are useless if you're trying to move water and not break earth. Loon-A-TiK
i was going to say what VE just said. however, i'd like to just add what has been the strongest for me, and what i've noticed kicks the most ass in the most people i've seen. paxil seems to be super strong in terms of the newer drugs, and has less freaky effects than some of the others as well. just watch out for a few pounds and sexual side effects, and you're golden.
