mejeba
After 5 major manic/psychotic episodes in almost 3 yrs., and all the AP's available in Canada, He was finally put on Clozapine, which has a reputation for easing the symptoms of hard to treat Schizoprenics. It is monitored closely with weekly blood tests for 6 mths, then bi-weekly. the psychosis does not ever completely go away, even without mania, but is very manageable and he is working and feeling good. fingers crossed here... sdjeff
Good to hear. Clozapine worked wonders for a freind of mine. He's Schizoaffective. He's now transitioning towards working full time after nearly two decades of severe symptoms. I would like to take it myself but keeping up with those blood tests... Good luck! mejeba
Sorry- I meant weekly for 6 mths, then BI_MONTHLY! He says it's not a big deal once you get used to it and when it goes to bi-monthly it's like a luxoury. Also, he hasn't had side effects like he did with all the others- in fact i can't think of one side effect eccept feeling sedated in the morn and it's hard to get up. When he has to for work, he does, tho. How long has your friend been on this med? I haven't heard about long-term stuff.

He's not totally symptom free but his behaviors are just a little eccentric and nothing to worry about. He has tried them all and it is positively the best med he's tried. He has a little fatigue and has gained some weight but is otherwise fine.
