chewbacca
Hi All, I have tried luvox for about 1 month and it killed my stomach so I had to stop. Now I have been on zoloft for about 6 weeks and no help with the anxiety or ocd. I took 150mg for the most part of that time. So I have now tracked my anxiety, sleep and all. I didn't sleep much for a couple weeks and then tried taking the zoloft in the morning instead of at night. So I switched to the morning and have now noticed that the zoloft is giving me an anxiety attack basically. It isn't an attack as much as it is that I am very anxious after talking it and then all through the day. So I use more klonopin then I normally would need even if I wasn't taking anything. So, my next options are paxil, prozac, lexapro. Celexa didn't work for me when I tried it before. I tried paxil twice before for just a couple days and it seemed like it gave me these weird heart beats. I get them sometimes anyway, but paxil seemed to cause them. But now that it has been several years that I tried it, I wonder if I would react differently. My anxiety is what I think causes my biggest issues and makes the obsessive worrying/thinking worse. Thanks Monty
chimpmaster
Most people get good mileage from at least one ssri so dont give up hope just yet. Prozac does the trick for me, but you may find paxil bettter. Only one way to find out right? Get together an action plan and contingency plan with your dr. Angelwhore
I seem to remember a doctor (a psychiatrist, I think) once telling me that some types of anti-depressants are kind of 'uppers' - for those that get very lethargic when depressed - and some are 'downers' - for those that get anxious when depressed. Note that this is not the terminology that was used, but that was the general gist. I can't remember the details eg which ADs fall into which groups, but it sounds like zoloft is working as an 'upper' for you in terms of your anxiety. Is your pdoc aware that the anxiety is the main problem? Maybe this is something to talk about before trying the next AD. (Sorry this is so vague - my memory seems to be dying a fairly rapid death....*sigh*....hope it's vaguely helpful nonetheless) xx
Maceo
Since you've tried Paxil before and since Lexapro is the stereo-isomer of Celexa which you have also tried maybe you should give Prozac a go?
zsandoz
paxil is the most sedating of the SSRIs, therefore it is probably your best bet. after that id try lexapro or prozac. prozac has a long half-life so the side effects might be less, or at least take longer to kick in .. tho its side effects are in general kinda harsh compared to other newer SSRIs
Maceo
If I were you I'd wanna try Prozac. You've already tried Paxil and Celexa and if Celexa didn't work I don't think Lexapro will since it's made from Celexa.
