Loon-A-TiK
i just had an idea and i wanted to know if it is possible or if any of you have done it. i take klonopin, which takes awhile to work if you are in an emergency and NEED it NOW. i end up chewing it (ewww) and doing everything i can not to panic. i was thinking of maybe seeing if i could stack benzos, or have a quicker acting one that i could use when i need to, when klonopin is in my system already because i take it on a schedule. Unregistered
Check with your pdoc, but my experience was that Xanax kicks in in 15 minutes or less.
myevilme
I have ativan, xanax, valium, and klonopin on hand. Everything but the xanax is from old scripts. I still get 1mg xanax prn for cases of EXTREME panic when klonopin just doesn't cut it. It doesn't seem to hurt me to mix benzo's together. Have you tried klonopin wafers? My pdoc hasn't given me a script for them but he gives me samples if I ask for them.
Loon-A-TiK
good plan! i have a pdoc appt coming up here soon to check on my switch to abilify and my decrease in WB, so i'll bring up either klonopin wafers or xanax. i get totally freaked out, feel like i'm having a heart attack, have to sit down or i'll faint, and want to throw up. maybe i need more klonopin in my system. i take 1 during the day and 2 at night. i think that's high enough, but everyone's different. i think i should have something on hand for times when i feel like i need to go to the hospital. it's a good thing that stacking shouldn't be a problem. lemonflavor
I take Klonopin three times a day but when I go into a social situation I take Ativan on top of it. I actually haven't told my doctor about this so don't take it as advice but it works really well.
merlin fluff
I take klonopin to keep the anticipatory anxiety in hand ie take it before I get anxious when I know I'm about to do something scary. But have diazepam for a quick hit if the panic gets out of hand, I've found klonopin too mild to control a full on panic attack.
Cetkat
I've actually been rx'd a stack of Xanax 0.5mg twice a day and 0.5 Niravam prn. Niravam is the dissolvable form of Xanax and kicks in after a minute or two. I think that it's really the best thing for an attack - it works fast & if you end up needing more, you already feel the effect of the first one and there's less of a chance of using more than necessary. I also occasionally throw a Klonopin into the mix when I feel the need for something longer-lasting but mellower. Ultimately I think mixing is fine as long as you don't go overboard.
