DMF
does the sleepyness from seroquel ever go away? since starting it (200mg) i have mostly been sleeping until 4pm. today i missed school becuase i was sleeping, and it's an evening class. i'm considering dropping to 100mg, and if that doesn't work maybe i'll stop it altogether. i take it for intrusive thoughts. i feel like i'm wasting my life asleep. experiences? suggestions? DD takes 800 mg. Truthfully, she still needs about 10-12 hours of sleep a night but can get by on less for a few days. However, she is not as "sleepy" i.e. can't get up, etc. as the doses have gone up and she's gotten used to it. I don't know how long you've been on it but maybe time will help? myevilme
Time should help with the sleepyness...I'm up to 600mg right now and it doesn't even put me to sleep. Did they start you right off at 200mg or did they have you titrate up? When I started seroquel it was a switch from 15mg zyprexa (didn't titrate off) then a week of 100, a week of 200, then a week of 300. It stayed that way for a while until we've made recent dosage changes, and I haven't bothered to titrate with any of those changes. It didn't make me sleepy at all, but I think that was because of the discontinuation of zyprexa. Give it a week or two more, and see if it doesn't change. Mabye dropping to 100 might help, if it's a high enough dosage to control your symptoms. You might mention to your pdoc that you're sleeping too much..he or she might have a better idea of what to do. I have been where you are though, when they first started me on 10mg of zyprexa and 15mg of remeron I slept for like 16 hours at a time. Nothing on earth could wake me. Even after I woke up I felt all stoned and sleepy until I had 4 or 5 cups of coffee. Anyway, hang in there, keep in touch here and with your dr. and I'm sure you can find a way to treat your symptoms without sleeping all day/being zombified. grousemouse
ahh sluroquel. i've been on it for coming up on two years now and it still knocks me out like a light. i started taking it because the effexor i was on kept me up all night. after i stopped the effexor i tried to stop the seroquel but it turned out to be such an excellent med for my anxiety that i need to keep taking it. i just take it (150 mg) at night about 12 hours before i have to get up the next day. good luck, grouse. DMF
I don't know if this is dose related or not but dd reminded me that she was much sleepier in the lower doses (as are most people), still needs a lot of sleep on this higher dose but she has really strange dreams that she says really disrupts her sleep patterns which is why she says she needs so much sleep now. I've heard of a lot of people having very vivid, weird, sometimes very violent dreams on Seroquel. DD has a hard time, at times, trying to figure out if it was a dream or something that really happened.
Angelwhore
Many people have commented on here about seroquel sleepiness DEcreasing with an INcreased dose. Personally, I didn't find that. However, I have found a way to combat the sleepies quite effectively! I take my seroquel in the early evening, before going to tae kwon do training. The physical and mental stimulation of the training see me through the drowsiness and weird leg-restlessness-crap, so well, in fact, that most of the time I don't even notice any of it (the side effects, not the training...). I train for an hour, and by the time I get home I feel fine and can go to bed when I want (rather than practically passing out) and get up with no problems at all. On the nights that I don't have tae kwon do, I feel like I've been hit round the head with a sledge-hammer about half an hour to an hour after taking the seroquel. I also have a lot more trouble getting up in the morning. Hope this might help a little! xx
december_brigette
Hi, i have the same response as grouse. started 2 years ago at 25mg and now at 900mg and i fall asleep fast and stay asleep. but this is not "normal" so some say. both pdocs (prior one & current one) involved in my seroquel dosage agreed on the needed sleep for me. but if you are not wanting to sleep 12 hours a day...then i would suggest discussing with your pdoc about alternatives. bon chance!! december
Sophia85
I was on it for a year (100-150mgs) and it always knocked me out. I know that some people use it just for the sleeping effect.
