It's possible that someone who is predominantly heterosexual in orientation may be so fucked in the head by how he was raised as to adopt a homosexual identification

in order to connect with other people somehow. There certainly have been enough cases in which, after many years of misery in a heterosexual identity, a homosexual person

finally comes out to him/herself and begins to function as a full person (And, to be honest, their former spouses/partners/lovers rate all the sympathy in the world. They're as

much a victim in this as anyone else.)

That said - I've read that these programs have a very low long-term "success" rate and an alarmingly high suicide rate. The odds are very high that within 5 years

Haggard will be back to dating men or will be dead. It is my personal belief that the reverend is not going to enjoy meeting his Maker as much as he believes after

taking advantage of people who are in such personal pain.
