Would it be realllly bad to do a partial fast while taking lithium? I vaguely recall hearing something about regular meals when I was prescribed this stuff but that's about it. Fluids would be unrestricted and there would still be one full meal taken, so we're not talking "starvation" here. I could add two smaller meals according to the guidelines if I needed them, as long as they didn't equal a second full meal. Clear as mud, right? This would not be over an extended period of time, as in "every day for a week" or anything like that.

Any thoughts?

As far as I know, the main issue is with dehydration and potential toxicity following from that... but as you say fluids would be unrestricted, I can't really see that there would be a problem. Just be careful and monitor yourself for danger signals - nausea, shaking, etc.

I don't see a problem. You are on a moderate amount of lithium. You know whether you need to take your meds with food to avoid nausea or upset. As long as your salt levels stay stable you should be fine. If you get shaky, then get eat something salty to replace the sodium the lithium has displaced.

Are you doing this for Lent?

I have fasted for a day while taking lithium - it's kind of like when you get sick while taking it. Like everyone said, stay hydrated, drink gatorade if you start trembling and be aware of twitches and such.

If you normally take it with food it's probably a good idea to eat a piece of bread or something when you take it - your body is used to absorbing it through food. Taking it on an empty stomach can make your absorption go hinky.

As long as you take care you should be fine. Just accept that you may have to modify your fast a little and you'll be OK. ;)
