Sertraline (Zoloft/Lustral) withdrawal....?

Recommended Posts

I came off a 50mg/day dose of sertraline starting tuesday 6th Feb. I'd been on it since last June/July. Since then, I've been have weird attacks of light-headedness/wooziness that just come on suddenly, not when I've just stood up or whatever, and headaches (which I never normally get). These things tend to happen late afternoon/early evening, and I was taking my sertraline in the evening.

Could the symptoms related to the lack of sertraline? I've never had problems coming off anti-depressants before (been on Seroxat/Paxil, escitalopram, amitrypteline, reboxetine, Prozac in past). Any thoughts/suggestions/advice welcome!

The wooziness could definitely be a withdrawal effect. Generally it's not at any particular time of day, but rather when you turn your head. Then it feels like your brain turns about a nanosecond behind your skull.

It goes away over a few weeks, more or less.

If this is really bothering you and you have any sertraline left, you could break them in half and take 25 mgs/day for a week or two to ease the withdrawal.

I don't know about the headaches.

Good luck, Greeny

Thanks for the replies guys. I've seen my psychiatrist, who confirmed that these things are indeed withdrawal symptoms (he was at pains to emphasise that this does not indicate addiction - in which case, what does...?) and should go away pretty soon. The headaches have now gone, and the wooziness is easing off - by the way Greeny, your description is spot on, and it does occur when I move my head and/or blink.

As for taking a half dose, I could have done as my sertraline is in pill form, but I am not about to put that shit back in my body again if these are the effects it has!

Thanks again for your input.
