Loon-A-TiK
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070216/ap_on_...catholic_church so, the debate over handing out condoms creating promiscuity continues, with Catholic officials in NYC calling a massive hand-out of condoms in NYC on Valentine's Day "misguided". i happen to think it is a wonderful idea and that condoms should be widely available anytime, anywhere, for anyone. let's get off the high horse and start saving some lives and preventing some unwanted *social* infections! Bernard
I think handing out condoms is a good idea as well. On the radio the other day, our Health Minister Tony Abbott, was ranting about how school students shouldn't be given access to condoms because it just encourages promiscuity and poor morals. He pissed me off so badly because he is a such a dickhead! Do these Catholic Officials, and people like Tony Bloody Abbott understand that today's society is one where sex happens? Do they have any idea of the culture that people today participate in? Have they turned on a telly lately? Yeah, so good on em. Hand 'em on out! Condoms for everyone! /rant Bernard
wifezilla
I am all for acknowledging reality. Call me a radical if you must. I would rather someone be handed a condom that they don't need, then have someone would needs one but wouldn't bother to go get one and is going to have sex anyway NOT have one. Did that make any sense? Remember, this country was founded by uptight sexually repressed religious wackos. Apparently we have not yet outgrown our heritage. abifae
you radicals the problem is most people really do think if they don't look, the problem goes away. if you never tell your kids about sex, it doesn't exist and no one else will ever tell your kid anything. so if you don't hand out condoms, these hormone driven sex crazed teens will stop and say "whoa, guys. we don't have condoms and we're underage. i know! let's go play putt putt golf instead. what were we thinking?" and they'll all do something other than have sex. wait... was that reality around here somewhere??? abi
Mack
Do these Catholic Officials, and people like Tony Bloody Abbott understand that today's society is one where sex happens? Do they have any idea of the culture that people today participate in? Have they turned on a telly lately? It isn't a matter of understanding modern culture, which they certainly do understand, but a matter of not conforming the teachings of the Church to fit modern society's "standards." What they said was true. It is misguided, but the decision is ultimately left to the individual. the problem is most people really do think if they don't look, the problem goes away. if you never tell your kids about sex, it doesn't exist and no one else will ever tell your kid anything. I think that is unfortunately true of a lot of parents, from many backgrounds. so if you don't hand out condoms, these hormone driven sex crazed teens will stop and say "whoa, guys. we don't have condoms and we're underage. i know! let's go play putt putt golf instead. what were we thinking?" and they'll all do something other than have sex. That's not what the Church is saying at all. They oppose contraception in general, so you have to look at it from their view. To them this is like handing out weapons and telling kids, "don't get hurt."
Dweii
We got free condoms in school in sixth grade. Most people used them as water balloons and threw them at people on the street.
