Menopause can kick your ass. Or not. It comes in as many forms as there are women. The only thing I can say for sure is that it's worse at the beginning. Getting in to see a pdoc is a good idea, but if it's going to take too long, she should talk to her gynecologist or family doc about the anxiety and other physical, cognitive and mental problems she is experiencing. It all goes together in one big happy package and it's not unusual at all. Reassure your mom that she's not alone. If she's an internet user, she could find some menopause discussion groups. I'm sure she'll find a lot of understanding, empathy and good ideas for coping.

Oh, and the estrace probably is not going to help much with the anxiety. It can help with mild depression and/or anxiety in some women, but it sounds like what your mom is going through isn't exactly "mild".
