Ophelia
Is it ok to drink while taking Effexor, Zyprexa and Remeron? Thanks in advance =] When mixing psychiatric drugs and alcohol, it is common for side effects of the drugs to worsen and such (the whole multiplier effect thing and stuff). Usually, the rule of thumb is that you are supposed to avoid alcohol when on most of these types of medications. Do some people drink on psych meds? Yup... but it is far from a healthy decision and can potentially have health risks. I'm kind of a hypocrite for saying this stuff, but... well... yeah... just because I do not make healthy choices does not mean that others shouldn't... I could be wrong, but I tend to doubt that anyone will be telling you that it is a-ok to go out and get plastered on meds. Really, though, when you drink on some of these meds, you are taking chances with your physical and your emotional well-being. So I would say that it would be best to resist the temptation when possible...
Unregistered
The PI sheets say no, so the official answer is no. Effexor and Remeron I can't comment on, but Zyprexa and booze seem to play nicely enough together, from my experience. I've drunk (too much) on all my crazymeds, and the only one to really, really avoid with booze was Xanax
Loon-A-TiK
my uncle has been a pharmacist for over 20 years, and he says it depends on what it is. when i was taking SSRIs, he said it was ok to have 2 according to my weight, as long as i didn't do it too quickly or binge. i can't take adderall and have more than 1 at all. adderall and alcohol do NOT play well together. do not take klonopin with alcohol. out of experience and not what he has told me, it seems that abilify and lamictal are fine with limited quantities of alcohol. i'm not sure about what you're taking. i'd have 1 and see about it, and no more than 2. you are asking your liver to process a lot. also, drink opposite in the day of when you take your most/heaviest meds. you could probably get away with 1 or 2 on xanax, because of th eshorter half life, as long as it is way opposite of when you take your xanax. the rule is just don't overdo it. also, do NOT take topa with alcohol. i learned the very hard way. i decided to celebrate the "anniversary of my 21st bday" by partying like it was 1999. i had just 1 drink and couldn't function- i thought i was going to end up being best buds with the toilet. i'm lucky i didn't throw up. i'd recommend topa if you want to quit drinking, based on my personal experience with it! but yeah, my uncle and i have had beer together before when i was on paxil and he never yelled at me about it or anything. i just had 1 beer and it didn't make me drunk or seem to accelerate the alcohol effects like some drugs will. keep it reasonable and you should be ok, especially if you weigh more and your body can handle more alcohol. i'm only about 110lbs, so i need to be really careful. scatty
Didn't you say you were 16 in another post or am I going crazy?
Unregistered
Didn't you say you were 16 in another post or am I going crazy? Nope. 16 it is: here. So just don't even think about drinking on crazymeds, or you really will risk a lifetime of liver damage, and maybe some good old fashioned brain damage too. Oh, and it's illegal to boot. scatty
I'll try not to scold you Maceo but developing a taste for alcohol at your age can be very damaging. Along with a mood disorder, plus the meds, plus if ya get caught it could even affect you getting/keeping a license, heavy fines, and worse. Your body is still growing. No need to do liver damage until you're 21.
Maceo
Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll avoid alcohol or just have a small amount and see how it affects me.
