hello!

my sister was completely depressed the whole winter in Alaska. Who wouldn't be?

now that the weather is turning nice her day is more upbeat. a little too upbeat.

she starts out in a good mood which then turns hyper. then, exhausted.

i am bipolar and i am doing this as well.

could this be more SAD or more BP?

what med helps this?

thank you for listening!

have a great day!

kathy

Has any of this happened before? It sounds like it might just be a passing thing, in which case medicating might not be the best idea. Is it affecting her everyday functioning/interaction with people? Her job/school? etc. You know the questions to ask. Honestly, I'd see if she's willing to go see a doctor--if it's been going on for more than a few weeks then it's totally worth getting a professional opinion on, you know? Goodluck, hope it's just a passing phase!

It depends... if it's adversely affecting her, then she should go to a doctor and it's more likely to be BP. If the change from depression was a good thing, then there's nothing to worry about for now, and just be on the lookout next winter for the possibility of depression (just in case it is SAD). Another telling feature would be to look at the mood history for the past several years, not just the past year.
