Maceo
I've never taken it but a lot of people do use Wellbutrin to augment SSRI's and other antidepressants seems to work well for some people.
null0trooper
My pdoc claims that Wellbutrin can have synergistic effects with other drugs and boost their effectiveness. Is he full of it? No. Looking at the affected neurochemistry, it's very likely to amplify the effects of ADs that work on noradrenaline reuptake (for example: Norpramin, Vivactil, Cymbalta), the MAOIs (combining reuptake inhibition with reduced clearance), and the stimulants (increased NA release). It is also a strong liver enzyme inhibitor, which boosts the blood levels of any medication metabolized by Cytochrome P-450 isoenzyme 2D6 (amiodarone, haloperidol, selegiline, dextromethorphan, many others). From personal experience, cough syrup hits harder and lasts far longer when you are on Wellbutrin, and IIRC the PI sheet mentions that interaction. The usage Maceo refers to applies more to using Wellbutrin's effects to offset some of the side effects associated with the SSRIs, but the Cymbalta/Wellbutrin combo might be an example of synergistic combination.
