papertrees-are you at theraputic dose yet?

Indeed. Of course, a therapeutic dose varies (obviously). Shit, I was doing fine for quite some time at 200 then slipped. Upped to 300 and am fine again.

These things take time. Any med takes time. If there were a magic pill, that's all anyone would take. Unless it cost like $1000 a month, in which case we would all be bank robbers. (not that *I* would ever do anything like that, oh nooo...)

I was having a rough time during the first four weeks. I started taking 100mg a few days ago and I've been feeling really good. I don't know if it's realistic to attribute this to the Lamictal or the fact that I've been driving for 3 days and I'm in Texas and I love it here.

I'm actually here to look up how long other people take to start feeling good on the stuff.

wtf why am I not logged in? oh well.

lamictal is an odd bird when it comes to drugs. like topamax, it can vary so much by dose, when you take it, the phase of the moon (well, not really that), etc.

50mg isn't theraputic yet. you're still on the way up. i'd give it a chance at different dose levels. i take 300mg and have taken as high as 500mg. it's so individual. they say 200mg, but that's just some number they pulled out of their asses. it depends too on how fast your body metabolizes drugs.

you'll make it! ask your pdoc about ways to combat the depression for until you feel better. it is highly unlikely that lamictal will make you depressed at every dose. you'll most likely find the magic dose for you. mine is 300. it's an odd number, but is what i need.

also, i know there is something going on between hormonal contraception and lamictal, estrogen in particular. i don't know if it only applies to if you are starting the hormonal contraception during lamictal treatment or if it always applies, but women on hormonal contraception need about 40% more lamictal than other people according to my pdoc. that's one reason mine is a little high. ask about it. as i said, i don't know too much about that linkage. if it applies, by all means find out about it.

Tirating up sucks! I would always get worse before I got better. Weird, but it's been posted here before so you're not alone. If you reach 200 mgs for 2-4 weeks and still feel horrible, I'd be concerned and tell pdoc. Otherwise, just wait it out.

I'm just wondering at what point should I give up and say this isn't the med for me?

At this point in the game, that question should not even be forming in your mind. If it is, you might as well stop now and find a nice SSRI. With such a long titration period before you can even get to a dose where you can reasonably start to expect some effects, well, you need patience. The point where you say it isn't for you? If you have patience--why don't we say, offhand...about a couple months into 500 mg. Sound good? If you're that high up, and no real positive effects, then it's probably not for you. Otherwise, give it time; it has, after all, shown quite a lot of efficacy for many of us.

Obvious caveat, i am no doctor, take what I say with whatever dose of salt your doctor recommends.
