Jamison
I am about to go to my doctors office for a follow up in about 2 hours. Can anyone tell me which benzo works best for sleep, and has the least risk of weight gain and cognitive side effects. I know none of them are totally free of cognitive side effects, but some are less then others. I need it for sleep ONLY, if that helps.
resonance
I don't know, but are you concerned that if you ask your doctor about this he/she might give an incorrect answer?
Guest jamison_unabletologin
Yes, I find very often that doctors do not know what they are talking about.
Kaiserin
I take Xanax for occasional axiety episodes and for sleep. I *love* it. I've had no side effects.

Well, you probaby got your benzo script...but I might as well give my two cents. I've tried both Valium and Clonazepam. The Clonazepam worked quite well for sleep for about 18mths, before I started to need more to get the same effect, plus it seemed to wear off much more quickly (before the 12 hours were up). I guess I metabolize benzos quite quickly. Valium works well, and more quickly than Cloanzepam, but I get a bit of 'tired hangover' from it. Although benzos are a great drug with generally fewer bad side effects, their addiction potential is huge (I'm addicted). Using it occasionally, you may avoid this problem, but if you use for than a few weeks continuously, you could set yourself up for long term dependance YMMV. I spent almost three months of hell just reducing my dose in half, only to be told by a psych that I should go back to my regular dose, and try again in the future, as I suffer from mod-severe IBS. Good luck.
Loon-A-TiK
i'm probably chiming in too late, but in my experience, i'd say klonopin (generic is clonazapam or something like that). it doesn't seem to bother me in any way.
Maceo
Temazepam (Restoril, Normison etc.) is the most popular benzo sleeping pill. It's ok but it does get you high.
