Guest Guest_Meggie_*
Hi all, I just got moved up to 80mg of Strattera. I've only been on it for about a month. I'm on it to try to help my focus and concentration. I haven't been diagnosed with ADD I just have a lot of trouble with concentrating and that doesn't work in grad school. Anyway, I've read that Strattera can help with impulse/binge eating? I have a major problem with binge eating and I need to lose about 20lbs or so. I was just wondering if Strattera has helped any of you guys lose weight. I would really appreciate your feedback! Thanks! Meg
Velvet Elvis
It's not much of an appetite suppressant. If the problem is more related to impulse control, you might have some luck with it. Topamax can help with several impulse control related eating disorder type issues, including binge eating. http://www.revolutionhealth.com/drugs-trea...eating-disorder
Meggie
Yeah I was on Topomax about 2 years ago and I loved it but I ended up losing too much weight on it and having abnormal kidney function so they yanked me off it. I have a different psychiatrist now and she won't let me take anything that can suppress appetite.
Guest chiclet
I am on Strattera and I have noticed a funny thing in regard to "food issues." When I started on it, I was a relapsing bulimic. I was binging and purging a few times a week. I was prescribed Strattera just for ADD symptoms and because it was weight-neutral. What I noticed immediately though, was a complete cessation of purging symptoms. And of course, once the purging stopped, my eating habits evened out a bit. I have had neither weight gain nor loss, but also have not purged once since beginning this med a few months ago. I still marvel at how completely this drug irradicated that issue. Maybe it's because it helped with impulse control, or maybe it's just helping with my mood and anxiety, I don't know.
