SandDune
Why did the village idiot keep hitting his head with a hammer? 'Cause it was _so_ nice when he stopped. It happened again.... Depressed to hell and gone all week, then a migraine breaks through the migraine preventative (nadolol/corgard). No surprise actually. Depression precedes nearly all of my migraines. The fact that this bout of depression had an unusually good cause, (very bad news on the dental front), might suggest that the depression causes the migraine. Anyhoo. I hit it with a sumatriptan day one and the migraine mostly goes away. It comes back sort of and sticks around for three days, eventually gets so bad I hit it again with a sumatriptan. Migraine goes away. Then for about 6 hours I get happy. Really just plain wow! Undepressed. Not high, not manic, not ecstatic, just Alive, just Ok not suicidal for a change. Nice! If I could just be that way all the time things would be really really Good. Now according to the Wikipedia, Sumatriptan is structurally similar to serotonin, and is a 5-HT (5-HT1D) agonist, which is one of the receptors to which serotonin binds. Question: What the hell must I take to stay in that nice state? Please please please tell me. (Celexa and Nortriptyline are not the answers)
Velvet Elvis
What are you on by way of an antidepressant? It could actually be the cumulative effect that you're feeling. I couldn't find much related to this with the full text available but I'll dig around some more later if I don't forget. BuSpar is a 5HT-1a agonist. It's the only thing close to that that is commonly used in psychiatry. I assume you're aware of the risks associated with Triptian overuse so I won't nag you about it. SandDune
What are you on by way of an antidepressant? The doc tried me on Celexa (Citalopram) and Nortriptyline. Neither worked a damn. If anything made me worse. So I'm not and have not for some months been on any. I couldn't find much related to this with the full text available but I'll dig around some more later if I don't forget. Even Abstracts will be helpful. (I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve for hacking the rest out if it really interests me.) Either way, roll on ,PLoS it's the greatest thing that has ever happened to science since the printing press. BuSpar is a 5HT-1a agonist. It's the only thing close to that that is commonly used in psychiatry. Thanks, I'll take a closer look at that. Hmm. It seems to be way off label for my problems. I assume you're aware of the risks associated with Triptian overuse so I won't nag you about it. Hmm. Nothing beyond what is in RxList. Anything in particular you had in mind? No, I'm certainly not planning on tripping out on triptans. As I said, it doesn't make me that happy, and I think a druggy hoping for a happy trip would be very disappointed if he tried.
