So I did a very very stupid thing

I went off Olanzapine and onto abilify, went nuts, ended up in the psych ward under 24 hour watch for 2 weeks. Just got discharged today. Back on 20mgs of Zyprexa, been on it for a week. Still feel indescribably shitty - very very paranoid particularly with the thought broadcasting and command voices. How long should I give Olanzapine to work again? Will it not work this time around? Have I done ireeparable damage to my brain? Am I doomed to to take a suite in Hotel Clozaril?

how long were you back on Z in the hospital?

you are talking sense here, that's a start

you couldn't have known the difference those APs would have for you specifically. don't blame yourself too much, ok. find the sane parts of life and hold on tight til the zyprexa kicks in.

i tried to reach my uncle (a pharmacist) to ask him how long it takes for Z to kick in for your symptoms, but he was busy.

i'm not sure. i think it depends on what symptoms it is trying to treat. it treats mania rather quickly. it's my emergency med for when i feel like i need to go to the hospital; it gets rid of suicidal ideations really quickly.

as for voices and such, i'm not sure. i'd give it at least a week, if not longer. maybe you need a higher dose, or maybe a different AAP.

Z won't cause brain damage, as far as i'm aware. it does sometimes cause elevated blood sugar and weight gain over longer periods of time, be aware of that, but not for the short time you've been on it.

if it is going to be a forever med, make sure you get your sugar and weight checked regularly. you have to take super care of yourself on Z.

however, it is a miracle drug and made me feel great. it knocks out all ideations when i feel like i need to go to the hospital.

Blackbird, the zyprexa should start working fairly quickly. Id expect within a week or 2 it would reach full effect. If it doesnt, youd better get in to see your p-doc to talk about other options.
