First Time Sonata User

Recommended Posts

I've never taken a sleeping med before and am really nervous.

Some of my worries:

Will I be awake one second and all of a sudden fall asleep or do you just feel really sleepy?

Completely irrational, but I'm afraid it will cause me stop breathing or feel like I can't breathe.

Will I have a hangover the next day? Supposedly, Sonata is out of your system so fast that there is no morning after feeling.

I really.. really.. need to sleep tonight. Someone please ease my mind!

Sonata is pretty tame so you'll more than likely just feel a bit sleepy.. making it easier to actually fall asleep on your own. It only stays in your system for 4 hours, so if you sleep that long or longer you shouldn't have any type of hangover.

I've also never heard of any sleep medication causing trouble breathing when taken at the correct dosage.. i.e. not the whole bottle.

Sweet dreams!

Thanks, Cetkat. I didn't end up taking it last night because I have an early appt with my tdoc this morning and I was still afraid about the hangover aspect. I'm going to give it a try tonight though! Thanks for your reply.

Well, I finally took it last night. Major disappointment! It made me yawn more than usual, but it took over an hour to fall asleep. I guess that's an improvement over the 4 hours it typically takes. Plus, I had major morning grogginess. I don't know if I'll bother with it again.

Sorry it was such a dissapointment. You might want to give it another try, just to see if the morning grogginess is something that wears off. If it still isn't working for you, maybe your doc will let you try something else like like ambien or lunesta.

You were right, HaloGirl. I tried it again last night and fell asleep within half an hour... maybe even less. Not a touch of grogginess this morning. I'm so happy and relieved!

Great! I am so happy you found something that works for you ;)

Sonata (the brand) is not, but it's zaleplon and sold in Canada under the name of Starnoc

[link=http://health.lifestyle.yahoo.ca/drug_info_details.asp?brand_name_id=1305&rot=4" target="_blank]http://health.lifestyle.yahoo.ca/drug_info...=1305&rot=4[/link]

Greetings,

Thanks for the quick reply. I was on Starnoc for a while but it was discontinued in Canada sometime in the fall last year.

Thanks, maybe Sonata will become available up here one day. ;)

Too bad they discontinued it, it always sucks when they take away something that was working for you. Thanks for the info.
