ehygon
so i've been on risperdal for... a year? maybe two, i forget. anyway, i have had some shit side effects, (ie lactation) which did eventually go away, weirdly enough. but recently i've been getting ticks in my mouth and legs, and the dr decreased my risperdal. sadly, i forgot that one of the reasons i had it increased, aside from my paranoia, was that i get a bug crawly feeling over my whole body. I didnt tell the dr this, though i'm not sure why, i'm not embarassed or something, though yes i am, its kind of weird. I just told her about my paranoid thoughts a lot because i knew she would increase it for me. I was hoping the crawly feeling would go away, and it did. Anyway, my dr and i have talked about things before, and i definitely need an antipsychotic, but i can't stay on risperdal because of the ticks. she keeps bringing up zyprexa, but i told her last time i do not want it, because i am scared of diabetes (i dont eat well/exercise ). also, i dont want to be tired all the time, i have a bad time getting up for school to begin with. risperdal used to make me tired and i would sleep on the floor at school but it doesnt anymore and i dont have to sleep there anymore. I was on seroquel before but it made me so hungry i would get more depressed because i couldnt control myself. also i'm wondering, can you get abilify/geodon in canada? i would try those if possible. I can't seem to find the information about them being available here though. anyway thats enough for now, what i want really is peoples opinions. Cetkat
I don't know about the availability, I'm in the US. But I'd try Abilify before Geodon if you're worried about sedation. Abilify is generally activating, while Geodon can be both depending on the dose. You wouldn't have to worry about that with the Abilify. Of course activation could mean ticks in your case - sticking you with Geodon. But that's up to you.
Roosle
Sorry about your woes. Risperdal and I did not get along at all. I got migraines. Zyprexa is excellent but you'll want to eat the sofa. Abilify works differently for different folks, but seems pretty well tolerated by a lot of people. I LOVE the clear headedness of both of those meds, just not the side effects (which not everyone gets). Have you ever tried Lithium? I had two very good years with it before moving country and having to take a different variety which made my life hell. There are also beta blockers that help the ticks as an add on med. I think risperdal also gives me migraines. I never had them until my dose was increased to 2mg. Recently I've been having a hell of a time with them (see migraine forum under "i hate the hospital") and yes, I've tried lithium, i really didn't like it. my mind just screamed every day, "I WANT OFF." I had a lot of cognitive problems, which distressed me the most, as I'm a university student competing for a spot in the honors program. I am wondering about the beta blockers though. maybe i'll mention it, if i end up staying on risperdal much longer. thanks for the suggestions <
starfish
it's a little too late, but just wanted to comment.... doc put me on risperdal (0.5mg)two weeks ago and i've been in a pink cotton candy cloud the whole time. i don't know if it's coz of the combination (lithium-fluoxetine-risperdal-lamictal-trileptal-folic acid) or if it's the risperdal all alone. acne is worsening, yes, but moods are stabilizing. so maybe a pill combo with risperdal included will work for you too (ask your doc)
