mel1
I am going off abilify due to the fact that it sucks ass and makes me spiral into dyshphoric mania. I am currently taking only 5 mg. and then supposed to switch back to seroquel which made me gain about 45-50 pounds. I don't want to gain it back, but it made me feel calm. But I was thinking about going without an AAP and seeing how that goes. That would mean I would just be on 300 mg. of lamictal and 1.5 of klonopin. How do i know if i can go without an AAP? Guest
I think that you consult your pdoc, and make an informed decision to experiment, with a crisis plan in place in case you crash.
Anelize
I agree with karuna--talk to your pdoc and make a plan. Sometimes you just have to take what works, regardless of the side effects. That's how I feel, at least. I can deal with the side effects, but feeling mentally bad just kills me. Good luck.
Cetkat
Have you ever been on Risperdal? It's a calming med like Seroquel. You could try that and see if it makes you gain any weight ..
Anelize
I haven't tried risperdal, but I'm so gun-shy after this last episode I'll just stick with the seroquel. It was a bad one.

This sounds like my current situation, only there's no Seroquel or Klonopin involved... just Abilify hell and Lamictal. I'm wondering if I really need an AAP, too. I hope you find your answers. chimpmaster
Its the eternal paradox - you gain weight while you are on it, but it makes you feel good, and you lose weight when you are off it, but dont feel so good. I choose sanity over weight, but thats just me
mel1
I don't like abilify because it gives me major anxiety and akathesia. Can you take seroquel prn? what is a dose small enough to do something? I have 100 mg. of samples and leftovers. thank God I don't throw asway my 565$ meds!!! Cetkat
Can you take seroquel prn? what is a dose small enough to do something? Yes, but prn is for sleep.. not mood. If you want it to really make a difference, you have to stay on it. 50mg is the smallest dose that does something for me - 100mg is my normal dose when I take it prn. What dose did you take the Seroquel at?
mel1
I was on 250 mg. I used to take 50 TID and 100 at bedtime. Sleep isn't a big problem for me. I guess I need to talk to pdoc.

That's a good idea. There are other things to try besides Seroquel. You may not even end up with an AAP..
Loon-A-TiK
you could talk to your pdoc about using inderal (a beta blocker) with abilify to stop the akathesia (sp). maybe risperdal? zyprexa? there are alternative AAPs. i have a particular love for abilify, but it isn't for everyone. seroquel was NOT for me and gave me such terrible problems, i won't even go there. but on risp watch for lactation and prolactin levels, and on Z watch for weight and blood sugar. mel1
I am officially done with abilify. I started w/ 25 mg. of seroquel yesterday. I immediately felt a decrease in anxiety. I don't know how much I will end up taking, but I want to keep the weight off. Since my stomach is messed up, that shouldn't be a problem for now.
