What Could We Do?

Recommended Posts

i've been having a depression problem for months. my pdoc was adjusting the meds i have been on (see signature). he raised my WB and kept the lamictal at 300, then brought down the WB and raised lamictal.

so, i take abilify at 15mg, WB at 300mg, and Lamictal at 400mg.

this was supposed to prevent depressions, but it didn't prevent this one. i don't expect my meds to be perfect, but i know we need to shake it up, and i don't know what would be good.

i was thinking of asking about adding either paxil (which by itself makes me manic but in a combo helps me feel better), or Li (which makes me dumber than a pile of rocks but i'm on SSDI so what do i need a brain for?).

do you have any thoughts on what i could ask about?

thanks.

LR-

thanks for your response! i'm on 15mg because my pdoc likes that. i was on 10mg and it wasn't enough, so we went to 15mg and he thinks it's enough. it might not be.

that's cool that they're applying for it to be indicated for depressions too.

I know Abilify puts a dent in my depression. What's the reason you are at the dose you are at?

They are applying to have approval for treatment of depression.

I also heard that Abilify can be activating, but I don't know anything about dosages and you're already taking 15mg. As for the lamictal, I recall a study that said there was no statistical difference in efficacy between 200mg and 400mg per day for treating bipolar depression. In that regard I don't find it surprising that you didn't see a difference. I'm tritrating off lithium and was depressed while on it so I can't really recomend it.

For awhile, I was on 30mg abilify. It wasn't too much for me. I still like lithium but I'm not at therapeutic level. I started to come off of it and have never been able to get lower than 300mg without problems. So it still helps me but doesn't give me the mind-numbing side effects. With lamictal, I haven't had a full-blown mania or a long hypomania. But the depression still breaks through and seems to take its own sweet time in passing. Geodon helped me with this depression but I know that is an awful drug for you. Good luck.
